Obasanjo convenes meeting<\/em>\n\nThe inaugural meeting of the Nigeria\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cdn.wfp.org\/zerohunger\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Zero Hunger<\/a>\u00a0Strategic Review was held in IITA Headquarters in Ibadan on 29 April. Organized by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Olusegun_Obasanjo_Presidential_Library\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library<\/a>\u00a0(OOPL) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IITA<\/a>, this stakeholder meeting aimed to draw a roadmap to end hunger in Nigeria by 2030.\n<div id=\"attachment_642\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_sangingaadamuobasanjoigweDSC_0904_2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-642 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_sangingaadamuobasanjoigweDSC_0904_2.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_sangingaadamuobasanjoigweDSC_0904_2.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_sangingaadamuobasanjoigweDSC_0904_2-300x199-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_sangingaadamuobasanjoigweDSC_0904_2-768x510-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_sangingaadamuobasanjoigweDSC_0904_2-450x299.jpg 450w\" alt=\"Picture of IITA DG Nteranya Sanginga (left) and former Nigerian President Olasegun Obasanjo (wearing blue headdress) with some government officials and partners.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"680\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-642\" \/><\/a>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-642\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IITA DG Nteranya Sanginga (left) and former Nigerian President Olasegun Obasanjo (wearing\u00a0blue headdress) with some government officials and partners.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nThe meeting received support from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wfp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">World Food Program<\/a>\u00a0(WFP), and was organized in the context of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/sustainabledevelopment\/sustainable-development-goals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>\u00a0(SGDs) that seek to end hunger by 2030.\n\nFormer President\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.naij.com\/tag\/348-olusegun-obasanjo.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Olusegun Obasanjo<\/a>, the meeting convener, said the task of attaining the SDGs could not be left for the government alone, or for civil society or the private sector.\n\n\u201cIt is going to take the collective effort of each and every citizen of this nation and our partners. It will require our collective change of mindset to at first identify the opportunities that abound,\u201d he said.\n\nThe former president said that Nigeria\u2019s continued importation of food was unacceptable and requested that efforts be made to address this.\n\nThe WFP Representative,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfp.org\/contacts\/stanlake-samkange\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stanlake Samkange<\/a>, explained that the SDGs would be driven by the countries themselves. and the WFP\/UN\u2018s role is to support countries in achieving these goals.\n\n\u201cWFP\u2019s role is to be a catalyst in a country\u2013owned process,\u201d he added.\n\nIITA Director General\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/sanginga-nteranya-e\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nteranya Sanginga<\/a>, said that IITA would provide the necessary support for Nigeria to achieve its target within the framework of the Zero Hunger initiative.\n\nDr\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zoominfo.com\/p\/Chiji-Ojukwu\/708235059\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chiji Ojukwu<\/a>, a Director with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.afdb.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Banque africaine de d\u00e9veloppement<\/a>\u00a0(AfDB), expressed the commitment of the Bank to initiatives that would help Africa to feed itself. He said that the Bank was ready to work with Nigerian authorities in the Nigeria Zero Hunger process, through the commodity value-chain to end hunger and poverty.\n\nAbout 50 key participants from government, ministries, development organizations, international entities, and the public and private sectors attended the strategic meeting.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The
