Les nouvelles ressources de s\u00e9quences d'ADN aideront les scientifiques \u00e0 d\u00e9velopper des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s r\u00e9sistantes \u00e0 ces maladies virales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'\u00e9quipe comprenait des scientifiques de l'Institut international d'agriculture tropicale (IITA), le <a href=\"http:\/\/www.universityofcalifornia.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universit\u00e9 de Californie<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/jgi.doe.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">le Joint Genome Institute du D\u00e9partement de l'\u00c9nergie des \u00c9tats-Unis<\/a>, et des Organisations Nationales de Recherche Agronomique de Tanzanie, du Nig\u00e9ria, des Fidji et de Micron\u00e9sie, entre autres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'\u00e9quipe a s\u00e9quenc\u00e9 58 vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de manioc sauvage et cultiv\u00e9, y compris des esp\u00e8ces apparent\u00e9es telles que Caera ou l'arbre \u00e0 caoutchouc ind\u00e9<em>(Manihot glaziovii)<\/em>, et a g\u00e9notyp\u00e9 268 vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de manioc africain. L'\u00e9quipe a publi\u00e9 les r\u00e9sultats dans le num\u00e9ro d'avril de la revue Nature Biotechnology. L'article s'intitule \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nbt\/journal\/vaop\/ncurrent\/full\/nbt.3535.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">S\u00e9quen\u00e7age du manioc sauvage et cultiv\u00e9 <em>(Manihot esculenta)<\/em>  et les esp\u00e8ces apparent\u00e9es r\u00e9v\u00e8lent une vaste hybridation intersp\u00e9cifique et une grande diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Le d\u00e9veloppement de ressources g\u00e9nomiques, telles que cette s\u00e9quence de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 l'\u00e9chelle des chromosomes, a accru la compr\u00e9hension de la diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique du manioc et de ses apparent\u00e9s sauvages, et a donn\u00e9 un aper\u00e7u de sa structure de population. On s'attend \u00e0 ce que cela acc\u00e9l\u00e8re les progr\u00e8s de la recherche en biologie fondamentale et de l'am\u00e9lioration g\u00e9n\u00e9tique \u201d, d\u00e9clare <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/ferguson-morag\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Morag Ferguson<\/a>, g\u00e9n\u00e9ticien mol\u00e9culaire \u00e0 IITA-Kenya et l'un des scientifiques impliqu\u00e9s dans cet effort et co-auteur de l'article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'\u00e9tude a \u00e9galement fourni des preuves \u00e9videntes pour soutenir l'hypoth\u00e8se selon laquelle le manioc a \u00e9t\u00e9 domestiqu\u00e9 \u00e0 partir d'une esp\u00e8ce sauvage, connue sous le nom de <em>M. esculenta<\/em> sous-esp\u00e8ce <em>flabellifolia<\/em>, dans la partie occidentale de la r\u00e9gion du sud de l'Amazonie au Br\u00e9sil, et a travers\u00e9 un \u201c goulot d'\u00e9tranglement g\u00e9n\u00e9tique \u201d, restreignant la quantit\u00e9 de diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique du manioc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette r\u00e9duction de la diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique du manioc, en particulier en Afrique, a r\u00e9sult\u00e9 de l'utilisation d'un nombre limit\u00e9 de parents dans le d\u00e9veloppement de nouvelles vari\u00e9t\u00e9s. C'est une connaissance importante pour guider les d\u00e9cisions de s\u00e9lection afin de restaurer la variation perdue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Nous sommes ravis des r\u00e9sultats de cette \u00e9tude. En tant que culture multipli\u00e9e par voie clonale, l'am\u00e9lioration g\u00e9n\u00e9tique du manioc par la s\u00e9lection conventionnelle est une entreprise complexe et longue. Par cons\u00e9quent, la compr\u00e9hension de la diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique du manioc et de ses esp\u00e8ces sauvages apparent\u00e9es soutiendra les efforts de s\u00e9lection g\u00e9nomique \u201d, d\u00e9clare <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/kulakow-peter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peter Kulakow<\/a>, responsable du programme d'am\u00e9lioration du manioc de l'IITA, bas\u00e9 \u00e0 Ibadan, au Nig\u00e9ria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Historique du programme d'am\u00e9lioration du manioc en Afrique<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'\u00e9tude a \u00e9galement fourni des informations utiles sur les vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de manioc en Afrique et leur historique de s\u00e9lection. Les scientifiques ont \u00e9tudi\u00e9 des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s issues d'un ancien programme de s\u00e9lection du manioc \u00e0 Amani, dans la province de Tanga, en Tanzanie, qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9 sous les Allemands, ferm\u00e9 pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, puis rouvert par les Britanniques. Son objectif \u00e9tait de s\u00e9lectionner des maniocs r\u00e9sistants \u00e0 la mosa\u00efque du manioc, et plus tard, \u00e0 la virose de la striure brune du manioc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apr\u00e8s avoir examin\u00e9 le manioc de nombreuses r\u00e9gions du monde, ces premiers obtenteurs ont \u00e9t\u00e9 incapables de trouver des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s pr\u00e9sentant des niveaux \u00e9lev\u00e9s de r\u00e9sistance \u00e0 ces maladies et ont par cons\u00e9quent eu recours \u00e0 des croisement avec des esp\u00e8ces sauvages, notamment <em>M. glaziovii<\/em>  et \u201c manioc en arbre \u201d. Introduit en Tanzanie \u00e0 l'\u00e9poque de la colonisation allemande pour la production de caoutchouc, <em>M. glaziovii<\/em>  et leurs hybrides intersp\u00e9cifiques \u201c manioc en arbre \u201d poussent d\u00e9sormais \u00e0 l'\u00e9tat sauvage, en particulier dans les zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res de la Tanzanie. Les feuilles du manioc en arbre sont consomm\u00e9es comme l\u00e9gume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les informations relatives aux s\u00e9quences ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que certaines des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de manioc populaires en Tanzanie, notamment le Namikonga et le Muzege, contiennent encore des sections de <em>M. glaziovii<\/em> dans leurs g\u00e9nomes. Ces vari\u00e9t\u00e9s comptent \u00e9galement parmi les plus tol\u00e9rantes au CBSD. D'autres vari\u00e9t\u00e9s populaires sont apparent\u00e9es et proviennent probablement du programme d'Amani ; il s'agit notamment de Nachinyaya, d'Albert et de Kibaha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suite \u00e0 la fermeture du programme de s\u00e9lection d'Amani, nombre de ces vari\u00e9t\u00e9s ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9es \u00e0 la Moor Plantation au Nigeria. Le programme de s\u00e9lection du manioc de l'IITA a largement utilis\u00e9 ces hybrides intersp\u00e9cifiques de la Moor Plantation pour produire un grand nombre de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s am\u00e9lior\u00e9es \u00e0 haut rendement r\u00e9sistantes aux ravageurs et aux maladies. La preuve en est apport\u00e9e par des sections de traces de <em>M. glaziovii<\/em> ADN qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9s dans de nombreuses vari\u00e9t\u00e9s d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es par l'IITA.
