The TAAT program is a critical strategy for transforming agriculture on the continent that would ensure that Africa is able to feed itself through agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_7920\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7920\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/newint.iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/1024_taat_DSC0260.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7920 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/newint.iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/1024_taat_DSC0260.jpg\" alt=\"Picture of media briefing with (L-R): J Wadsworth (Fund Council), N Sanginga (IITA), C Ojukwu,  and J Chianu (AfDB).\" width=\"1024\" height=\"602\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7920\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Media briefing with (L-R): J Wadsworth (Fund Council), N Sanginga (IITA), C Ojukwu,  and J Chianu (AfDB).<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The TAAT Program aims to eliminate extreme poverty, end hunger  and malnutrition, achieve food sufficiency,  and turn Africa into a net food exporter as well as set Africa in step with global commodity  and agricultural value chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modernized, commercial agriculture is seen as the key to transforming Africa  and the livelihoods of its people, particularly the rural poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To carry out these objectives, the African Development Bank (<a href=\"http:\/\/afdb.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BAD<\/a>), working with IITA  and other partners, has identified eight priority agricultural value chains relating to rice sufficiency, cassava intensification, Sahelian food security, savannas as breadbaskets, restoring tree plantations, exp anding horticulture, increasing wheat production,  and exp anded fish farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (<a href=\"http:\/\/faraafrica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FARA<\/a>)  and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CGIAR<\/a> Consortium  and 12 of its 15 international agricultural centers active in Africa support this initiative by the Bank  and the co-sponsors to revitalize  and transform agriculture through the TAAT program. The 3-day workshop was organized by IITA in partnership with the Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops (<a href=\"http:\/\/sard-sc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SARD-SC<\/a>) project for AfDB, which is funding this mega initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIITA supports AfDB  and partners in ensuring that TAAT is effectively set up,\u201d said IITA Director General, <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/sanginga-nteranya-e\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nteranya Sanginga<\/a>. \u201cThe whole CGIAR system is backing this huge initiative with its research infrastructure in collaboration with FARA, AGRA, Africa Harvest,  and the national partners.
