Abdou Tenkouano, the Executive Director of the West and Central African Council for Agricultural Research and Development (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.coraf.org\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CORAF\/WECARD<\/a>), an IITA alumnus, made the call on 10 August, during his official visit to IITA-Ibadan.\n<div id=\"attachment_1112\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1112 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_1.jpg\" alt=\"Picture of DG Nteranya Sanginga leads the meeting with CORAF Executive Director Abdou Tenkano.\" width=\"1024\" height=\"523\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1112\" \/><\/a>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-1112\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">DG Nteranya Sanginga leads the meeting with CORAF Executive Director Abdou Tenkano.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nTenkouano said his visit aimed to express the intentions of CORAF\/WECARD to initiate a collaborative intervention for national centers under the auspices of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/waapp.gov.ng\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Africa Agricultural Productivity Program<\/a>\u00a0(WAAPP) in partnership with IITA.\n\n\u201cIITA is recognized as a key player in Africa\u2019s agricultural advancement and consistently plays a major role in helping to generate employment, as well as deploying world-class agricultural technologies\u2026CORAF is interested in partnering with IITA to tap from its rich international expertise and using such to empower national centers,\u201d Tenkouano said.\n\nSheu Salau, an Agricultural Economist representating the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Banque mondiale<\/a>\u00a0at the event, bemoaned the inability of national systems to tap from IITA\u2019s rich knowledge reserve, calling on a concerted approach to transform information delivery and knowledge sharing for beneficiaries.\n\n\u201cSome transformation in the way science, technology and innovation are deployed to end users is needed\u2026the World Bank acknowledges the need to strengthen its collaboration with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IITA<\/a>\u00a0in the areas of evidence-based knowledge as this largely informs how programs are designed,\u201d Salau noted.\n\nIITA Director General\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/sanginga-nteranya-e\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nteranya Sanginga<\/a>\u00a0welcomed the partnership proposal, noting that the crisis situation in many subregions in Africa makes the proposal timely. He further emphasized\nthat countries need to be assured that intervention packages will provide the needed solutions to identified problems.\n\n\u201cCountries will need to see results. In the long run, it is not about how countries are engaged but how to convince them that what is being done is necessary\u2026let us be aggressive, work together to design a plan that will take into account all the ideas discussed with a clear outcome,\u201d said DG Sanginga.\n\nThe team also went on a tour of IITA facilities and interacted with the IITA Youth Agripreneurs. The activities and achievements of the young men and women under the platform impressed the visitors. In parting, Salau concluded that \u201cthe approach IITA is using in youth development is the best and therefore should be scaled up\u201d.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A call has
