In addition to directly supporting IITA, the Ambassador also assured the continuous support of the Japanese government to the Institute through contributions to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.worldbank.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Banque mondiale<\/u><\/a>\u00a0et le\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.afdb.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><u>Banque africaine de d\u00e9veloppement<\/u><\/a>.\n\nFor many years, contributions by the government of Japan have played an important role in advancing science and research at IITA. This has mainly been through support to the postdoctoral fellow system by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mofa.go.jp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minist\u00e8re des Affaires \u00e9trang\u00e8res<\/a>\u00a0(MOFA), joint projects with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maff.go.jp\/e\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries<\/a>\u00a0(MAFF), and also support under various initiatives and collaboration with Japanese organizations, such as the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jircas.go.jp\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Centre international de recherche agricole du Japon<\/a>\u00a0(JIRCAS), Tokyo University of Agriculture (TUA), the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jica.go.jp\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Japan International Cooperation Agency<\/a>\u00a0(JICA) and other partners. One Japanese private sector company\u2015Taiyo Industry Africa\u2015 also has been collaborating with IITA, deploying Japanese technologies to boost fish and vegetable production in Nigeria.
