En R\u00e9publique du B\u00e9nin, par exemple, les noix de cajou brutes ont remplac\u00e9 le coton comme premier produit agricole d\u2019exportation  et repr\u00e9sentent plus de 13% des recettes d\u2019exportation. La production est toutefois fortement limit\u00e9e par l\u2019infestation de plusieurs ravageurs, notamment des insectes suceurs de s\u00e8ve, des mineuses, des foreurs de branches, des punaises de la famille des Coreidae, des punaises de la famille des Miridae et des thrips, qui nuisent \u00e0 la qualit\u00e9 des noix r\u00e9coltables et entra\u00eenent des pertes de rendement pouvant atteindre 80%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_13161\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-13161\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/1024_P1020658_0617.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13161\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_P1020658_0617-300x225-1.jpg\" alt=\"Capture of a coreid bug by O. longinoda on cashew leaves. Source : JF Vayssi\u00e8res, IITA<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans un r\u00e9cent <a href=\"http:\/\/periodicos.uefs.br\/ojs\/index.php\/sociobiology\/article\/view\/354\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rapport<\/a> publi\u00e9 dans le Journal of Agricultural and Forest Entomology, une \u00e9quipe de chercheurs qui comprend le Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/vayssieres-jean-francois\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Vayssi\u00e8res<\/a>, un entomologiste de l&#x27;IITA, pr\u00e9sente des r\u00e9sultats remarquables. Les rendements en noix de cajou peuvent \u00eatre augment\u00e9s jusqu&#x27;\u00e0 78% gr\u00e2ce aux fourmis tisserandes seules, et jusqu&#x27;\u00e0 151% gr\u00e2ce aux fourmis et aux pulv\u00e9risations d&#x27;app\u00e2ts GF-120, lorsque les traitements int\u00e8grent la fourmi tisserande africaine (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.antwiki.org\/wiki\/Oecophylla_longinoda\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Oecophylla longinoda<\/em><\/a>sont utilis\u00e9s contre les ravageurs b\u00e9ninois des insectes du cajou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les chercheurs ont men\u00e9 leur \u00e9tude de deux ans dans un verger d'anacardiers de la r\u00e9gion de Parakou, au B\u00e9nin. Tout d'abord, ils ont divis\u00e9 les anacardiers en trois blocs. Chaque bloc a ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 divis\u00e9 en quatre traitements, comptant chacun 72 arbres. Les traitements \u00e9taient les suivants : une parcelle d'arbres colonis\u00e9s par des fourmis tisserandes (fourmis) ; une parcelle d'arbres colonis\u00e9s par des fourmis tisserandes nourries avec une solution sucr\u00e9e (nourrissage des fourmis) ; et un syst\u00e8me de lutte int\u00e9gr\u00e9e contre les ravageurs (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.epa.gov\/opp00001\/factsheets\/ipm.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IPM<\/a>) consistant en une parcelle d'arbres colonis\u00e9s par des fourmis tisserandes et avec une application localis\u00e9e de GF-120. Le GF-120 est un biopesticide m\u00e9lang\u00e9 \u00e0 un app\u00e2t prot\u00e9ique compatible avec la production biologique mais nuisible aux ravageurs de l'anacardier. Enfin, le traitement t\u00e9moin par rapport auquel les performances des autres traitements ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mesur\u00e9es consistait en une parcelle d'arbres ne faisant l'objet d'aucune forme de lutte antiparasitaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les arbres prot\u00e9g\u00e9s par des fourmis tisserandes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 compar\u00e9s \u00e0 ceux ne b\u00e9n\u00e9ficiant d&#x27;aucune forme de protection. Les chercheurs ont constat\u00e9 que le rendement en noix et leur poids avaient augment\u00e9 respectivement de 78% et 73% pour les <em>fourmis<\/em> traitement, par 122% et 118% pour le <em>alimentation des fourmis<\/em> traitement, ainsi que par les mod\u00e8les 151% et 141% pour le <em>IPM<\/em> traitement compar\u00e9 au t\u00e9moin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c La pr\u00e9sence de fourmis tisserandes patrouillant dans les arbres offre une protection contre les nuisibles, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le Dr Vayssi\u00e8res. Elles peuvent avoir un impact direct en capturant des insectes nuisibles tels que les punaises de l'anacardier et fournissent \u00e9galement des \u201drep\u00e8res visuels et olfactifs\u201c qui agissent comme un r\u00e9pulsif. \u2018<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'efficacit\u00e9 des fourmis tisserandes en tant agents de biocontr\u00f4le naturel contre un large \u00e9ventail de ravageurs, telle que d\u00e9montr\u00e9e par cette \u00e9tude, est en harmonie avec les r\u00e9sultats d'\u00e9tudes pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes men\u00e9es par le Dr Vayssi\u00e8res en 2008. Celles-ci ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que <em>Oecophylla longinoda<\/em> a \u00e9t\u00e9 efficace pour repousser et r\u00e9duire les d\u00e9g\u00e2ts caus\u00e9s par ces mouches des fruits dangereuses<a href=\"http:\/\/entnemdept.ufl.edu\/creatures\/fruit\/tropical\/oriental_fruit_fly.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Bactrocera dorsalis<\/em><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.extento.hawaii.edu\/Kbase\/crop\/type\/ceratiti.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Ceratitis capitata<\/em><\/a>, et <a href=\"http:\/\/entnemdept.ufl.edu\/creatures\/fruit\/tropical\/mango_fruit_fly.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Ceratitis cosyra<\/em><\/a>\u2014 dans les plantations de manguiers et d'agrumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cependant, une d\u00e9couverte inattendue de la pr\u00e9sente \u00e9tude a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que les traitements utilisant des fourmis tisserandes et des fourmis tisserandes nourries au sucre ont entra\u00een\u00e9 une augmentation de l'activit\u00e9 des thrips, ce qui a conduit \u00e0 une r\u00e9duction de la qualit\u00e9 des noix plus importante que pr\u00e9vu. Inversement, lorsque les fourmis tisserandes ont \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9es conjointement avec le GF-120, la qualit\u00e9 des noix a \u00e9t\u00e9 am\u00e9lior\u00e9e et les d\u00e9g\u00e2ts caus\u00e9s par les thrips r\u00e9duits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Par cons\u00e9quent, un programme de lutte int\u00e9gr\u00e9e combinant des fourmis tisserandes et du GF-120 ou un pesticide similaire est recommand\u00e9. Les pesticides biologiques \u00e9tant on\u00e9reux, d'autres \u00e9tudes sont n\u00e9cessaires pour d\u00e9terminer la rentabilit\u00e9 de ce type de programme afin de s'garantir que les gains li\u00e9s \u00e0 l'augmentation des rendements ne soient pas annul\u00e9s par le co\u00fbt des traitements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Dr Vayssi\u00e8res a \u00e9galement confirm\u00e9 qu'il existe d'autres m\u00e9thodes de lutte ax\u00e9es sur les thrips qui doivent \u00eatre test\u00e9es de cette mani\u00e8re. Il a ajout\u00e9 : \u201c Les fourmis rouges, <em>O. longinoda<\/em>, sont particuli\u00e8rement adapt\u00e9es aux pays en d\u00e9veloppement africains o\u00f9 les arbres fruitiers sont rarement surveill\u00e9s pour d\u00e9tecter les ravageurs et o\u00f9 la lutte int\u00e9gr\u00e9e est entrav\u00e9e par la grande taille des arbres et les connaissances inad\u00e9quates ou insuffisantes des agriculteurs. La technologie des fourmis tisserandes est gratuite, \u00e9conome en main-d'\u0153uvre, auto-r\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9ratrice et ne n\u00e9cessite que peu d'interventions de la part des producteurs africains. Cette m\u00e9thode de lutte biologique conservative est donc particuli\u00e8rement adapt\u00e9e aux petits producteurs d'Afrique subsaharienne.
