{"id":12859,"date":"2026-06-20T12:25:35","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T12:25:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.iita.org\/news-item\/farmers-embrace-dry-season-cowpea-production-technology-in-niger-republic\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T12:25:35","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T12:25:35","slug":"farmers-embrace-dry-season-cowpea-production-technology-in-niger-republic","status":"publish","type":"news-item","link":"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/news-item\/farmers-embrace-dry-season-cowpea-production-technology-in-niger-republic\/","title":{"rendered":"Les agriculteurs adoptent la technologie de production de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 de saison s\u00e8che au Niger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Les agriculteurs aux ressources limit\u00e9es qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 initi\u00e9s \u00e0 la technologie de production de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 de saison s\u00e8che dans le <em>fadama<\/em> les zones de Radi et d'Adrawa, deux villages pr\u00e8s de Maradi, en R\u00e9publique du Niger, ont exprim\u00e9 leur ravissement face \u00e0 cette technologie, qui pr\u00e9sente un grand potentiel pour am\u00e9liorer leurs conditions de vie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apr\u00e8s la r\u00e9colte, les agriculteurs ont vendu leurs graines de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 au prix de 1 000 CFA par kg (plus de 1 TP4T US2 par kg), contre un prix normal de 550 CFA pour les graines de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 pendant la saison d&#x27;abondance. Les agriculteurs ont \u00e9galement r\u00e9alis\u00e9 d&#x27;importants b\u00e9n\u00e9fices gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la vente de fourrage de ni\u00e9b\u00e9, souvent tr\u00e8s demand\u00e9 au plus fort de la saison s\u00e8che dans toute la r\u00e9gion du Sahel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Selon le Dr Hakeem Ajeigbe, coordinateur de projet du projet Cultures-\u00c9levage financ\u00e9 par Gatsby, en collaboration avec l'Institut de la Recherche Agronomique du Niger (INRAN), la technique de production de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 de saison s\u00e8che \u00e0 cycle court, \u00e0 haut rendement et r\u00e9sistante aux maladies a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduite aupr\u00e8s des agriculteurs comme une innovation dans leurs syst\u00e8mes de production de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 et de l\u00e9gumes. \u201c L'objectif \u00e9tait de faciliter la production de semences destin\u00e9es \u00e0 \u00eatre utilis\u00e9es par le projet pendant la principale saison des pluies \u201d, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Avant, les agriculteurs des deux villages cultivaient des l\u00e9gumes sous irrigation en octobre\/novembre et les r\u00e9coltaient en janvier\/f\u00e9vrier, laissant la terre en jach\u00e8re jusqu'\u00e0 la saison des pluies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lorsque l'exp\u00e9rience am\u00e9lior\u00e9e de nieb\u00e9s de saison s\u00e8che \u00e0 courte dur\u00e9e, \u00e0 haut rendement en grains et en fourrage a \u00e9t\u00e9 introduite en f\u00e9vrier, 12 agriculteurs, six de Radi et six d'Adrawa, ont particip\u00e9 \u00e0 l'exp\u00e9rience. On leur a attribu\u00e9 2 kg de chacune des deux vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 \u00e0 planter au plus fort de la saison s\u00e8che. Les lign\u00e9es de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 : IT90K-372-1-2, IT97K-499-38, IT89KD-374-57 et IT97K-499-35 ont donn\u00e9 les meilleurs r\u00e9sultats lors des d\u00e9monstrations de la saison des pluies 2006. La r\u00e9colte a commenc\u00e9 le 12 mai et le rendement estim\u00e9 en grains variait de 860 kg \u00e0 1300 kg\/ha. Les vari\u00e9t\u00e9s traditionnelles de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 ne peuvent pas \u00eatre plant\u00e9es en f\u00e9vrier car elles sont photosensibles et risquent de fleurir peu pendant la p\u00e9riode de jour la plus longue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Avec 586 000 tonnes de grains de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 secs produits par an, la R\u00e9publique du Niger est le deuxi\u00e8me producteur mondial de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 apr\u00e8s le Nigeria (plus de 2 millions de tonnes). Sa principale p\u00e9riode de production de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 est la courte saison des pluies (juin-septembre). Dans la plupart des cas, les agriculteurs doivent faire face \u00e0 des semences de mauvaise qualit\u00e9 qui entra\u00eenent de faibles rendements. Le projet Gatsby sur l'agriculture et l'\u00e9levage a entrepris en 2006 une \u00e9valuation participative par les agriculteurs de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 et de syst\u00e8mes de culture ni\u00e9b\u00e9-c\u00e9r\u00e9ales au Niger avec plus de 160 agriculteurs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cependant, sur ce nombre, seuls les habitants des deux villages de Radi et d'Adrawa ont acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l'irrigation pour participer efficacement \u00e0 la production de ni\u00e9b\u00e9 de saison s\u00e8che en relais de leurs syst\u00e8mes traditionnels de culture mara\u00eech\u00e8re dans les fadamas.
