Les initiateurs du projet, men\u00e9s par des repr\u00e9sentants de l'IITA et du CIMMYT, ont pass\u00e9 en revue les progr\u00e8s r\u00e9alis\u00e9s en 2008, partag\u00e9 des perspectives et \u00e9labor\u00e9 les plans de travail pour l'ann\u00e9e suivante. Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 rejoints par le comit\u00e9 consultatif du projet, des partenaires nationaux et des collaborateurs issus d'entreprises semenci\u00e8res priv\u00e9es et d'universit\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hartmann, Directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral de l'IITA, a officiellement ouvert la r\u00e9union et souhait\u00e9 la bienvenue aux participants \u00e0 l'institut. Il a cit\u00e9 le projet DTMA pour ses r\u00e9alisations au cours de l'ann\u00e9e \u00e9coul\u00e9e, d\u00e9clarant : \u201c L'\u00e9quipe du projet DTMA repr\u00e9sente un bon \u00e9quilibre en mati\u00e8re d'expertise qui, combin\u00e9e \u00e0 la technologie de tol\u00e9rance \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse du ma\u00efs, a un grand potentiel pour atteindre 30 \u00e0 40 millions de personnes. Et je vais \u00eatre l'un de ceux qui attendent la technologie DTMA ! \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Le projet DTMA doit se concentrer sur la production locale, en particulier face aux doubles d\u00e9fis \u00e9mergents du changement climatique et de la crise \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique. Nous devons \u00e9galement permettre \u00e0 d'autres acteurs de s'approprier le processus pour garantir la durabilit\u00e9 ; nous avons donc besoin d'une strat\u00e9gie de sortie \u201d, a-t-il ajout\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marianne B\u00e4nziger, directrice du programme mondial sur le ma\u00efs du CIMMYT, a fait remarquer : \u201c Il y a une force consid\u00e9rable en Afrique : la cr\u00e9ativit\u00e9 de ses chercheurs, le grand nombre d'entreprises semenci\u00e8res \u00e9mergentes et d'agriculteurs qui aspirent \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer leur vie. Nous devons exploiter cette force si nous voulons g\u00e9n\u00e9rer un impact. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elle a f\u00e9licit\u00e9 les diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9quipes du projet DTMA, nationales et internationales, pour les progr\u00e8s significatifs r\u00e9alis\u00e9s au cours de l'ann\u00e9e 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Parmi les r\u00e9alisations mises en avant lors de la r\u00e9union figuraient la mise au point, la diffusion et le ciblage de nouvelles vari\u00e9t\u00e9s tol\u00e9rantes \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse ainsi que le renforcement des capacit\u00e9s des collaborateurs du projet. Par exemple, le projet DTMA a \u00e9tabli des sites de criblage de la s\u00e9cheresse \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle \u00e0 Kiboko, au Kenya, et \u00e0 Ikene, au Nig\u00e9ria, dans lesquels la premi\u00e8re r\u00e9colte de ma\u00efs sous stress contr\u00f4l\u00e9 a \u00e9t\u00e9 cultiv\u00e9e. Ces activit\u00e9s devraient contribuer \u00e0 accro\u00eetre la disponibilit\u00e9 de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de ma\u00efs tol\u00e9rantes \u00e0 la s\u00e9cheresse en Afrique subsaharienne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au cours de l'ann\u00e9e 2008, le DTMA a dispens\u00e9 des formations sur les m\u00e9thodes de pointe en mati\u00e8re d'am\u00e9lioration du ma\u00efs et d'homologation des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s, sur les \u00e9tudes d'adoption des technologies et sur la gestion des entreprises semenci\u00e8res. Des scientifiques de l'IITA, du CIMMYT, de partenaires nationaux et d'entreprises semenci\u00e8res \u00e9tablies ont collabor\u00e9 \u00e9troitement \u00e0 la conception et \u00e0 la dispensation des cours, \u00e0 la grande satisfaction des participants. Des programmes ont \u00e9galement \u00e9t\u00e9 propos\u00e9s pour soutenir les chercheurs invit\u00e9s ainsi que les \u00e9tudiants en graduation et post-graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pour motiver et inciter les s\u00e9lectionneurs \u00e0 adopter des programmes de s\u00e9lection ax\u00e9s sur les donn\u00e9es, le projet DTMA a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 et promeut de nouveaux outils de gestion des donn\u00e9es sur le ma\u00efs, tels que l'International Maize Information System (IMIS) et Fieldbook \u2013 tous deux disponibles gratuitement sur le site Web du DTMA (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cimmyt.org\/dtma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.cimmyt.org\/dtma<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201d Le projet DTMA offre des opportunit\u00e9s sous forme de ressources g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques, de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s, de semences de pr\u00e9d\u00e9-s\u00e9lection et de personnel form\u00e9 \u201d, a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 le chef de projet Wilfred Mwangi aux participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Des discussions ont eu lieu selon des axes th\u00e9matiques et r\u00e9gionaux \u2013 Afrique de l'Est, de l'Ouest et australe. Les participants ont compar\u00e9 leurs exp\u00e9riences et leurs d\u00e9fis, et ont propos\u00e9 des strat\u00e9gies bas\u00e9es sur ceux-ci pour faire progresser le projet DTMA. Les sujets ont port\u00e9 sur divers aspects du d\u00e9veloppement, des essais et de l'homologation des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s, de la diffusion des technologies, de la production de semences de pr\u00e9tase et de base, ainsi que de la production et de la commercialisation de semences certifi\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Une taille unique ne convient pas \u00e0 tous \u201d a \u00e9t\u00e9 l'une des principales conclusions de la r\u00e9union. L'Afrique est diverse et les diff\u00e9rentes \u00e9quipes nationales devront cibler soigneusement leurs investissements sur les goulets d'\u00e9tranglement essentiels \u00e0 la mission et sur des strat\u00e9gies de passage \u00e0 l'\u00e9chelle efficaces dans la cha\u00eene de valeur des semences.
