Hugh Levinson asks whether science and technology can provide the key to ending under-development in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He asks what sort of research the continent’s scientists should conduct. Should they confine themselves to practical research to help the poor or can they afford to indulge in the more abstruse sciences? Nigeria, for example, has its own space programme, and mobile phones are changing millions of lives in Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
