{"id":12979,"date":"2026-06-20T12:26:03","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T12:26:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.iita.org\/news-item\/scientists-closer-to-developing-dual-resistance-cassava\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T12:26:03","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T12:26:03","slug":"scientists-closer-to-developing-dual-resistance-cassava","status":"publish","type":"news-item","link":"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/news-item\/scientists-closer-to-developing-dual-resistance-cassava\/","title":{"rendered":"Des scientifiques sur le point de mettre au point un manioc \u00e0 double r\u00e9sistance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les scientifiques de l'IITA sont sur le point de r\u00e9aliser une perc\u00e9e dans le d\u00e9veloppement de manioc r\u00e9sistant \u00e0 la fois \u00e0 la virose de la mosa\u00efque du manioc (CMD) et \u00e0 la virose de la strie brune du manioc (CBSD) en Afrique de l'Est et centrale. Ces deux maladies constituent les plus grandes menaces pour la production de manioc dans la r\u00e9gion, mettant en p\u00e9ril la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire et les moyens de subsistance de plus de 200 millions de personnes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selon Edward Kanju, obturateur de manioc \u00e0 l'IITA, il existe 14 types de cette culture en cours de recherche qui sont tr\u00e8s prometteurs. L'\u00e9quipe de Kanju venait de r\u00e9colter un essai avanc\u00e9 de ce manioc en Ouganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Je suis tr\u00e8s enthousiaste face aux r\u00e9sultats des essais, a-t-il d\u00e9clar\u00e9. Huit des 40 types de manioc test\u00e9s n'ont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 aucun sympt\u00f4me de maladie, tandis que 6 n'ont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9 que de tr\u00e8s l\u00e9gers sympt\u00f4mes sur les racines, les feuilles ou les deux. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La prochaine \u00e9tape, a-t-il indiqu\u00e9, consistera \u00e0 soumettre ces vari\u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e0 une pression encore plus forte en les greffant d\u00e9lib\u00e9r\u00e9ment avec des plantes malades. \u201c C'est un test tr\u00e8s rigoureux pour \u00e9tablir la r\u00e9sistance aux maladies, et si elles ne montrent toujours aucun signe de maladie, alors nous pourrons affirmer avec certitude, et pour la premi\u00e8re fois, que nous avons effectivement des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de manioc r\u00e9sistantes \u00e0 la CBSD et \u00e0 la CMD \u201d, a-t-il soulign\u00e9. \u201c Celles-ci pourront ensuite \u00eatre utilis\u00e9es pour la s\u00e9lection de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s r\u00e9sistantes dans d'autres pays de la r\u00e9gion des Grands Lacs tels que le Rwanda, la Tanzanie, le Kenya et la RD Congo. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selon Kanju, il s'agit de la quatri\u00e8me ann\u00e9e d'essais sur le manioc \u00e0 double r\u00e9sistance pour les moyennes altitudes en Ouganda. Les essais sont men\u00e9s \u00e0 Mukono, pr\u00e8s de Kampala, une zone consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme un point chaud pour la CBSD et la CMD. Le travail de s\u00e9lection a commenc\u00e9 avec plus de 5 000 vraies graines de parents tol\u00e9rants \u00e0 la CBSD provenant de Tanzanie, qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 envoy\u00e9es en Ouganda pour \u00eatre crois\u00e9es avec des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de l'IITA r\u00e9sistantes \u00e0 la CMD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Avant 2004, le CBSD n'\u00e9tait pr\u00e9sent que dans les zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res de l'Afrique de l'Est et autour du lac Malawi. Cependant, la maladie, qui provoque une pourriture s\u00e8che des racines les rendant impropres \u00e0 la consommation, a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 se propager aux zones de moyenne altitude. La maladie a affect\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re drastique la production de manioc dans le centre et le sud-ouest de l'Ouganda, le nord-ouest de la Tanzanie, l'ouest du Kenya et le nord-ouest de la RD Congo. Des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s tol\u00e9rantes pour les zones c\u00f4ti\u00e8res de basse altitude ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9es par l'IITA et ses partenaires, et diffus\u00e9es \u00e0 Zanzibar en 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le CMD, quant \u00e0 lui, est apparu pour la premi\u00e8re fois en Ouganda au milieu des ann\u00e9es 1980, se propageant rapidement dans la r\u00e9gion et faillant interrompre la production de manioc. Depuis, les chercheurs de l'IITA et leurs partenaires ont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s r\u00e9sistantes, mais celles-ci sont d\u00e9sormais menac\u00e9es par de nouvelles souches de la maladie. Le CMD cause des pertes de rendement annuelles de 34 millions de tonnes en Afrique, soit environ un tiers de la production totale ; tandis que les pertes dues au CBSD sont moins bien document\u00e9es, mais il a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tabli qu'il provoque une r\u00e9duction des rendements de 20 \u00e0 80 pour cent, car il affecte les racines et les feuilles, les parties les plus utiles de la culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le manioc cultiv\u00e9 \u00e0 partir des semences tanzaniennes a \u00e9t\u00e9 soumis \u00e0 plusieurs reprises \u00e0 une forte pression pathog\u00e8ne ainsi qu'\u00e0 des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s sensibles \u00e0 des fins de comparaison. De chaque saison de culture, seuls 10 pour cent du manioc ont \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9s pour l'\u00e9tape suivante. \u201c Apr\u00e8s quatre saisons de culture \u201d, d\u00e9clare Kanju, \u201c nous n'avons plus que 14 vari\u00e9t\u00e9s prometteuses. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les agriculteurs ont \u00e9galement particip\u00e9 au processus de s\u00e9lection afin de garantir que les vari\u00e9t\u00e9s r\u00e9pondent \u00e0 leurs pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences en mati\u00e8re de go\u00fbt de cuisson, de texture et de rendement.
