IITA, with the Support for Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops (SARD-SC) in Africa project and Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) are holding a two-day workshop on Engagement of Youth Entrepreneurship for Agricultural Transformation in Africa this week, 28-30 May at IITA, Ibadan, Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop brings together interested stakeholders to brainstorm and develop a Pan-African Youth in Agribusiness program. IITA and AGRA are developing an Africa-wide program on the Youth Agribusiness Development Initiative (YADI), a private\u2013public partnership to advance youth employment in agriculture and agribusiness in Africa. Those attending the workshop are representatives\/ Ministers of Agriculture of several sub-Saharan Africa countries; heads of potential funding institutions; and partners in African agriculture development such as FARA and other subregional research organizations. Other guests include representatives of 20 SARD-SC project countries and CGIAR and international research institutions such as AfricaRice, ICARDA, IFPRI, ICRISAT, icipe<\/em>, and ILRI who will be collaborating partners in the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops in Africa(SARD-SC), is a multi- national CGIAR- led project, which has the overall objective of enhancing food and nutrition security and contributing to reducing poverty in selected Regional Membership Countries(RMCs) in Africa. The target RMCs are: Benin Republic, Cote d\u2019Ivoire, DR Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tanzania, Ug anda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The project is funded by the African Development Bank and focuses on raising the productivity and profitability of four commodities; cassava, maize, rice and wheat. IITA is the Executing Agency while AfricaRice, ICARDA and IFPRI are implementing partners.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
