Senior staff members from NIHORT accompanied Attanda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Welcoming the delegation, IITA Deputy Director General, Partnerships for Delivery, <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/dashiell-kenton\/?msclkid=d000194cb67711ec91a1eda49a3f5e0c\">Kenton Dashiell<\/a>, noted that although both institutions already have a strong partnership, IITA is open to new areas of partnership. \u201cIITA has a major program in research, and we hope you will find areas that interest you,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_24416\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24416\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24416\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/NIHORT-team-visiting-aeroponics-facility.jpg\" alt=\"The NIHORT team visiting aeroponics facility.\" width=\"820\" height=\"411\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24416\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The NIHORT team visiting aeroponics facility.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his response, Attanda explained that NIHORT\u2019s research aims for competitive agriculture, resulting in a market-driven exchange of knowledge and products viable in domestic, regional, and global markets. This responsive agriculture must address multiple challenges of smallholder farmers and agribusiness, leading to a food and nutrition secure nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He highlighted the relationship journey between IITA and NIHORT over the years, stating that the partnership has thrived based on the network between individual scientists. \u201cIt is my utmost desire that these collaborations go beyond individual scientists to a symbolic institutional relationship,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_24417\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24417\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24417\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Touring-the-irrigation-site.jpg\" alt=\"NIHORT to increase partnership scope with IITA\" width=\"820\" height=\"411\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24417\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Touring the irrigation site.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The team identified multiple partnership possibilities, including plantain and banana suckers, Aflasafe, capacity building in grant sourcing and solar power generation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.startthemearly.org\/\">Start Them Early Program (STEP)<\/a> under the Youth Project, equipment upgrade and maintenance, irrigation, aeroponics, and forestry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dashiell assured the team that IITA would prepare and share a formal proposal to capture these collaborative activities with NIHORT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_24419\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24419\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24419\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IITA-representatives-meeting-with-NIHORT-team.jpg\" alt=\"IITA representatives meeting with NIHORT team.\" width=\"820\" height=\"411\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24419\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IITA representatives meeting with NIHORT team.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The NIHORT team toured the Institute\u2019s facilities, visiting places like the IITA Forest, Business Incubation Platform, Youth in Agribusiness, Genetic Resources Center, Plantain and Banana Breeding, Irrigation and Farm Office, Virology Laboratory, and the Bioscience Center. They also drove through the campus to view the aesthetic environment of the Institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Contributed by Favour
