The visit aimed to secure expert support for some crops, including cassava, maize, soybean, and their value chains for local, regional, and export markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_24757\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24757\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24757 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Mr-Suren-Abeywickrema-outlining-his-request-to-the-IITA-team.png\" alt=\"Mr Suren Abeywickrema outlining his request to the IITA team.\" width=\"820\" height=\"411\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24757\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mr Suren Abeywickrema outlining his request to the IITA team.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Director of IITA Development and Delivery Office, <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/dixon-alfred\/\">Alfred Dixon<\/a>, welcomed the teams and outlined IITA\u2019s activities through a video. He said that IITA is available to foster partnerships for agricultural development with African stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Odedina briefly introduced OgunInvest, which improves the ease of doing business in Ogun State by promoting investors and investment opportunities in the State. He further explained that Arise IIP, through Oguninvest, wants to collaborate with IITA to develop a roadmap and agenda on the agricultural value chains of some crops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abeywickrema explained that Arise IIP is a joint venture between Olam, AP Moller, and the Africa Finance Corporation. The platform focuses on identifying industrial gaps in Africa and creating new industries through transforming local raw materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_24758\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24758\" style=\"width: 400px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-24758\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Prof.-Sanni-discussing-next-steps-with-the-Ogun-State-team-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"Prof. Sanni discussing next steps with the Ogun State team.\" width=\"400\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24758\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Prof. Sanni discussing next steps with the Ogun State team.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abeywickrema also explained the platform\u2019s emphasis on agroprocessing and crop production with sustainable value chains that will create jobs within the country and have competitive value in the global market. Therefore, he requested data about other crops to know the type of crops they would adopt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Responding to his request, BASICS II Project Manager Lateef Sanni highlighted why \u201cmodified cassava starch\u201d would be the best market for Arise IIP, as the pharmaceutical, livestock, and plywood industries would have a high demand for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, Sanni mentioned that IITA would support them in building cassava tissue culture to ensure a clean cassava stem. He added that the Institute would connect Arise IIP with IITA-GoSeed so the industry could grow the seed according to their specification, which would lead to increased yield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
