The week-long training, usually held at the IITA Ibadan campus, assembles Masters and PhD students from various African universities. The training is also open to organizations interested in training their staff in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s workshop accommodated 16 students, trained by nine IITA Bioscience staff, including <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/abberton-michael\/\">Michael Abberton<\/a>, Director of IITA West Africa Hub and Head of Bioscience Center, and Yemi Fajire, Bioscience Laboratory Manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_24926\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-24926\" style=\"width: 623px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24926\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/University-of-Ibadan-Masters-student-Muhammed-Jimoh.jpg\" alt=\"University of Ibadan Masters&apos; student, Muhammed Jimoh, received his certificate at the end of the training.\" width=\"623\" height=\"411\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-24926\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">University of Ibadan Masters&#8217; student, Muhammed Jimoh, received his certificate at the end of the training.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an interview with some students, they highlighted specific techniques they have learned, such as using the PCR machine, Sequencer, Ploidy Analyzer, and Lyophilizer. After the workshop, most students confirmed they can now perform DNA extraction, DNA sequencing, and many other things they could not do before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To ascertain the effectiveness of the training, the organizers assessed the students before and after the training. The post-training scores underlined a marked improvement in students\u2019 comprehension of the practical concepts.
