Members of the Oyo State Chapter of the Nigeria Library Association (NLA)\u2014the national union of library and information professionals\u2014recently visited the IITA<\/a>\u2013CGIAR<\/a> Knowledge Center as part of the familiarization tour of member organizations following the inauguration of the state chapter\u2019s new executives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Led by the newly elected chairperson, Dr Sophia Adeyeye, the team expressed gratitude to the Knowledge Center and IITA for their constant and immense support of the association. Adeyeye stated that asides from supporting the association, the Knowledge Center has constantly proved to be a stellar example to other member organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She further requested a collaboration with the Knowledge Center to assist other librarians, especially the upcoming ones, in capacity development. The Knowledge Center responded positively to the request as it has a provision to train a quota of budding librarians annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on behalf of the Knowledge Center, Users Service Librarian Louis Anajekwu applauded the association\u2019s work, imploring the new executive to stick to their mandate, particularly as they attempt to digitalize libraries. \u201cAnother concern for us here at the Knowledge Center is that most interns we train have minimal practical knowledge, and we desire that to change starting from the school curriculum,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chairperson in her response, stated that the association has been working to effect a change in the educational curriculum nationwide to allow students studying Library and information science to engage in more practical course work. The visit thereafter, was brought to an end with a tour of the IITA facilities by the members of the Nigeria Library Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
