IITA<\/a>\u2013CGIAR<\/a>, under the auspices of the IFAD-funded Zero Hunger Project, has signed an agreement with the Togolese government to boost food security in the country. IITA Deputy Director General, Partnerships for Delivery (DDG-P4D), Kenton Dashiell<\/a>, and Togo Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Antoine Lekpa Gbegbeni, signed the agreement virtually in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This agreement renews the opportunity to transfer proven agricultural technologies and innovations from IITA and AfricaRice\u2014the main partners in the Zero Hunger Project\u2014to farmers, extension personnel, seed producers, and others in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agreement aims to strengthen the country\u2019s National Agricultural Research and Innovation Systems, mainly Institut Togolais de Recherches Agronomiques<\/a> (ITRA) and L\u2019Institut de Conseil et d\u2019Appui Technique<\/a> (ICAT). Another objective is to improve the seed system, food production, food security, value addition, nutrition, and marketing of agricultural products in four regions of the country\u2014Kara and Savanah in the north and Maritime and Plateaux in the West.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After signing the agreement, IITA and AfricaRice had several meetings with the Director of Plant Sectors at the Ministry, Anani Kpadenou; the DGs of ITRA and ICAT; and the cassava and rice focal points seconded from ITRA to work on the Zero Hunger project to ensure the implementation of the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
