The training in Ebonyi State, Nigeria, involved 896 males (442 youths and 454 adults) and 2451 females (1277 youths and 1174 adults). The AfricaRice-led workshop covered various topics, including rice cake, rice pancake, chin-chin, rice rolls\/buns, rice peanut, and rice milk production. It was conducted in the state&#8217;s six local government areas\u2014Ikwo, Abakaliki, Onicha, Ohaozara, Ohaukwu, and Ezza North.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_26931\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26931\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IITA-and-Africa-Rice-team-with-the-Togo-government-officials-during-the-launch.jpg\" alt=\"Participants of the value addition empowerment program.\" width=\"820\" height=\"411\" class=\"size-full wp-image-26931\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-26931\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Participants of the value addition empowerment program.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The training was organized in response to a recommendation from the newly appointed Ebonyi State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hon. Princess Iyioke. The commissioner had called for extensive sensitization and mobilization on rice value addition and product diversification in rural communities to enhance nutrition, especially for nursing mothers, infants, and school children.<\/p>\n\n<p>The step-down training was conducted with the Department of Food Science and Technology, Ebonyi State University, and the Federal Government of Nigeria\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifad.org\/en\/\">FIDA<\/a> Value Chain Development Programme. It was facilitated by entrepreneurs and extension agents who had been trained at a training of trainers (ToT) workshop earlier in the year.<\/p>\n\n<p>Among the products demonstrated during the training, participants were particularly interested in rice milk, a new product in the area. By providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to produce and sell rice-based products, the project is helping to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the local
