{"id":15226,"date":"2026-06-20T12:41:26","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T12:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.iita.org\/news-item\/new-year-begins-with-release-of-new-high-yield-yam-variety-in-nigeria\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T20:46:02","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T20:46:02","slug":"new-year-begins-with-release-of-new-high-yield-yam-variety-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"news-item","link":"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/news-item\/new-year-begins-with-release-of-new-high-yield-yam-variety-in-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"La nouvelle ann\u00e9e commence par la mise sur le march\u00e9 d'une nouvelle vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d'igname \u00e0 haut rendement au Nig\u00e9ria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/\">IITA<\/a>\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/\">CGIAR<\/a>, en collaboration avec le <a href=\"https:\/\/nrcri.gov.ng\/\">Institut national de recherche sur les cultures racinaires<\/a>, a publi\u00e9 une nouvelle vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d'igname, l'UMUDr36 (identifiant de s\u00e9lection IITA : TDr1302100) pour les agriculteurs du Nigeria, sous le nom commercial de \u2018 SharpSharp \u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_27626\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27626\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27626\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Fresh-tuber-color-of-new-variety-SharpSharp.jpg\" alt=\"Fresh tuber color of new variety (SharpSharp).\" width=\"601\" height=\"469\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27626\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Couleur du tubercule frais de la nouvelle vari\u00e9t\u00e9 (SharpSharp).<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'annonce a \u00e9t\u00e9 faite au 33<sup>rd<\/sup> R\u00e9union du Comit\u00e9 national sur la d\u00e9nomination, l'enregistrement et la lib\u00e9ration des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de cultures, des races de b\u00e9tail et des esp\u00e8ces piscicoles tenue \u00e0 Ibadan le 11 janvier 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UMUDr36-SharpSharp est une igname blanche de Guin\u00e9e (<em>D. rotundata<\/em>) vari\u00e9t\u00e9. Les nouvelles vari\u00e9t\u00e9s proviennent de l'IITA et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 distribu\u00e9es aux agriculteurs par l'NRCRI, \u00e0 Umudike. L'UMUDr36-SharpSharp a \u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9e en raison de ses caract\u00e9ristiques remarquables : maturit\u00e9 pr\u00e9coce, rendement \u00e9lev\u00e9, production \u00e9lev\u00e9e de farine et bonnes aptitudes \u00e0 la cuisson et au pilage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chez l'igname, le stress hydrique en fin de saison de croissance a un impact significatif sur le rendement, de sorte que l'introduction de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e0 maturation pr\u00e9coce devrait contribuer \u00e0 stabiliser les revenus des agriculteurs. Le point remarquable de cette nouvelle vari\u00e9t\u00e9 est son rendement potentiel \u00e9lev\u00e9 de 33 t\/ha, malgr\u00e9 sa p\u00e9riode de maturation plus pr\u00e9coce de 180 \u00e0 210 jours par rapport aux vari\u00e9t\u00e9s lanc\u00e9es l'ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re (UMUDr33 et UMUDr34) qui ont une p\u00e9riode de maturation de 230 \u00e0 270 jours au Nig\u00e9ria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_27627\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27627\" style=\"width: 558px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27627\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Tuber-appearance-of-new-variety-SharpSharp.jpg\" alt=\"Tuber appearance of new variety (SharpSharp).\" width=\"558\" height=\"554\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27627\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aspect du tubercule de la nouvelle vari\u00e9t\u00e9 (SharpSharp).<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En adoptant des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e0 maturation pr\u00e9coce, les agriculteurs peuvent esp\u00e9rer mettre en place une production d\u2019igname moins sensible au stress hydrique en fin de saison de croissance. Cette vari\u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9sente certaines caract\u00e9ristiques morphologiques, telles qu\u2019une feuille verte en forme de c\u0153ur, un tubercule vigoureux et cylindrique, une peau d\u2019\u00e9paisseur moyenne et une chair blanc cr\u00e8me ne pr\u00e9sentant pas d\u2019oxydation. Les nutriments suivants ont \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9s dans cette vari\u00e9t\u00e9 : prot\u00e9ines (1,44%), mati\u00e8res grasses (0,29%), fibres brutes (2,02%), amylose (31,29%), sucres (4,1%), phytate (1,44%) et glucides (88,2%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depuis 2011, l'IITA d\u00e9veloppe des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s d'igname r\u00e9pondant aux pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences des consommateurs et des agriculteurs, avec le soutien du minist\u00e8re de l'Agriculture, des For\u00eats et de la P\u00eache du Japon (MAFF-Japan). La vari\u00e9t\u00e9 lanc\u00e9e cette fois-ci est l'une des r\u00e9alisations issues des activit\u00e9s men\u00e9es par l'IITA, avec le soutien du MAFF-Japan. La vari\u00e9t\u00e9 nouvellement enregistr\u00e9e a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e et s\u00e9lectionn\u00e9e avec la coop\u00e9ration des projets de s\u00e9lection AfricaYam et RTB soutenus par la Fondation Bill &amp; Melinda Gates par l'interm\u00e9diaire de l'IITA-CGIAR, en plus du projet MAFF-Japan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les prochaines \u00e9tapes comprennent la production rapide de stocks de semences de base et de pr\u00e9s\u00e9lection afin que les agriculteurs commerciaux puissent acc\u00e9der \u00e0 cette nouvelle vari\u00e9t\u00e9.
