Alors que les plantations de caf\u00e9 en Asie s'\u00e9tendent rapidement pour r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 la demande mondiale, l'Afrique assiste \u00e0 une diminution inqui\u00e9tante de sa production de caf\u00e9. Ce d\u00e9clin est attribu\u00e9 \u00e0 de multiples facteurs, notamment la perte de terres au profit de l'immobilier et l'impact significatif des nuisibles et des maladies sur les cultures de caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">L'un des pays ressentant l'impact de ce d\u00e9clin est le Kenya, o\u00f9 le caf\u00e9 est depuis longtemps une pierre angulaire de l'\u00e9conomie. Malgr\u00e9 la forte demande mondiale pour le caf\u00e9 kenyan, caract\u00e9ris\u00e9 par sa qualit\u00e9 sup\u00e9rieure en tant que vari\u00e9t\u00e9 Arabica, l'industrie du caf\u00e9 du pays stagne. Le vieillissement des plantations de caf\u00e9 et les investissements limit\u00e9s dans de nouvelles exploitations ont contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 la diminution des rendements. Les d\u00e9fis persistants pos\u00e9s par les ravageurs et les maladies, tels que les n\u00e9matodes, qui peuvent d\u00e9truire progressivement les cultures p\u00e9rennes comme le caf\u00e9, aggravent encore le probl\u00e8me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_27689\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27689\" style=\"width: 322px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27689\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Cocoa-farmers.jpeg\" alt=\"Treating coffee plants in the pot experiment\" width=\"322\" height=\"430\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27689\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Traitement des plants de caf\u00e9 en exp\u00e9rimentation en pot.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En r\u00e9ponse \u00e0 ces d\u00e9fis, les scientifiques ont men\u00e9 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/articles\/10.3389\/fpls.2023.1196171\/full\">une \u00e9tude r\u00e9cente<\/a> pour \u00e9valuer l'efficacit\u00e9 de deux produits biologiques commerciaux \u00e0 base de <em>Purpureocillium lilacinum<\/em> (<em>P. lilacinum<\/em>) et <em>Trichoderma asperellum<\/em> (<em>T. asperellum<\/em>) dans la lutte contre les n\u00e9matodes \u00e0 galles (<em>Meloidogyne<\/em> infections dans le caf\u00e9 Arabica kenyan. L'\u00e9tude, men\u00e9e sur une p\u00e9riode de 18 mois, visait \u00e0 \u00e9valuer la capacit\u00e9 des produits \u00e0 supprimer les populations de n\u00e9matodes sur les racines du caf\u00e9ier et dans le sol, ainsi qu'\u00e0 \u00e9valuer leur impact sur la sant\u00e9 des sols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_27692\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27692\" style=\"width: 251px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-27692\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Declining-coffee-production.jpeg\" alt=\"Work in the coffee field requires commitment.\" width=\"251\" height=\"335\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Le travail dans le domaine du caf\u00e9 exige de l'engagement.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les essais sur le terrain, men\u00e9s par un chercheur invit\u00e9 dans <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/\">IITA<\/a>-Nairobi, Kanan Saikai, a eu lieu au domaine de Chania dans le comt\u00e9 de Kiambu, au Kenya. Il comprenait sept champs de caf\u00e9 Arabica plant\u00e9s entre 1926 et 2012. Les traitements ont \u00e9t\u00e9 appliqu\u00e9s sur une p\u00e9riode de 25 mois, en se concentrant sur l'\u00e9tablissement de la colonisation fongique dans le sol et les racines des caf\u00e9iers. Les r\u00e9sultats ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que, bien que les deux agents de biocontr\u00f4le aient montr\u00e9 une certaine efficacit\u00e9 dans la r\u00e9duction des densit\u00e9s de n\u00e9matodes dans les racines, <em>P. lilacinum<\/em> a fait preuve d'une plus grande efficacit\u00e9 que <em>T. asperellum<\/em>. Cependant, l'\u00e9tude a \u00e9galement r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 que <em>T. asperellum<\/em> ont eu un impact plus positif sur la sant\u00e9 des sols, comme l'indiquent divers indices de sant\u00e9 des sols bas\u00e9s sur l'analyse de la communaut\u00e9 de n\u00e9matodes b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les conclusions de l'\u00e9tude ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 la complexit\u00e9 de la gestion des infections de n\u00e9matodes dans les cultures de caf\u00e9 et l'importance de prendre en compte la sant\u00e9 des sols dans les interventions agricoles.
