Speaking on behalf of the team, Indorama Head of Agronomy Titilope Oyerinde said Indorama started in Indonesia in 1976 as a textile company. The company has diversified into fertilizer production, PET, and petrochemical products. Indorama acquired Eleme Petrochemicals in Nigeria in 2006 and now produces 2.8m metric tons of urea annually.<\/p>\n\n<figure id=\"attachment_27854\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27854\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IITA-team-with-the-Indorama-team-at-IITA-headquarters-in-Ibadan.jpg\" alt=\"IITA team with the Indorama team at IITA headquarters in Ibadan.\" width=\"820\" height=\"411\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27854\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27854\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IITA team with the Indorama team at IITA headquarters in Ibadan.<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>The team is seeking areas of collaboration with IITA to drive their existent solutions to farmers&#8217; agronomic needs, especially in improved fertilizer content. Oyerinde said, &#8220;When we came to Nigeria in 2006, Indorama leveraged the shortage of extension agents in Nigeria with various programs to empower farmers and improve their yield. Alongside developing the FarmGrow app and digitalized solutions to farmer challenges, Indorama also seeks to introduce fertilizer with micro-nutrients that will improve the quality and efficacy of urea fertilizer to farmers.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p>Indorama Head of Research and Development Mihir Mehta said, &#8220;Farmers experience wastage of urea fertilizer since the quantity of nitrogen available for use to plants is limited. We need IITA&#8217;s expertise to prove the efficacy of urea fertilizer coated with micro-nutrients.&#8221; Farmers can look forward to better yields in combination with best agronomic practices with field trials, efficacy studies, and stability testing of micro-nutrients and micro-molecules to be added to urea fertilizer.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_27855\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-27855\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IITA-team-with-the-Indorama-team-at-IITA-headquarters-in-Ibadan-after-the-meeting.jpg\" alt=\" IITA team with the Indorama team at IITA headquarters in Ibadan after the meeting.\" width=\"820\" height=\"411\" class=\"size-full wp-image-27855\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-27855\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IITA team with the Indorama team at IITA headquarters in Ibadan after the meeting.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On behalf of the EiA, NRM Expert Christine Kreye welcomed the team to collaborate. IITA Systems Agronomist Alfa Kamara lauded the idea of coating urea with micro-nutrients to benefit farmers. He added that testing should cover various geographic locations in Nigeria and different soil types to ascertain combinations that suit the heterogeneous soil types in Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n<p>The team also spotted engagement opportunities with the IITA Business Incubation Platform.
