Scaling and said that \u201cIf we are serious about achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, we need to think about impact at scale, and the use of agr<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">icultural innovation at scale<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d<\/span><span projects\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">do\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">not achieve impact at scale because they start thinking of scaling towards the end of the project, do<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">t design projects with scaling in mind, and hav<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">e<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0unrealistic ideas of impact. Some of the projects also think that what works in one context can work similarly in another context (<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ne size fits all) and give similar outcomes. This<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0model<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0is commonly known as Scaling the Old Way.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>\n\n<span data-contrast=\"auto\">Furthermore, Schut shared lessons learned over the two years since the Scaling Readiness kicked off. Those include:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Scaling innovations<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">should be seen\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as part of packages. This means that innovations have different levels of readiness and use<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, et<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">do not scale alone<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">They<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0are context<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2013<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">specific<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, so<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0all the context of innovation scaling should be considered while scaling\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nd ensure all the condi<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tions for scaling are in place.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559685&quot;:360,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Innovations should not only focus on numbers (trying to achieve as many as possible)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, as<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">many other<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">elements\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ascertain\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">impact at scale\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">besides\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">numbers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559685&quot;:360,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Short<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2013<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">term and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0long<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u2013<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">term projects<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0develop differently.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">T<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he accurate way of scaling innovations is through a long-term project because achieving\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">impact takes time.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559685&quot;:360,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0b7\" data-font=\"Symbol\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">New competencies\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">such as scaling champions should facilitate i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nnovation use<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, which<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0is not the same as\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">i<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">nnovation design testing and validation. The<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">se<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0new competencies in the scaling process\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">should<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0understand policies<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0et<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the need\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the innovation by next users<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The process should a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">lso<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0include<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0new partnership data-contrast=\"auto\">Relinquishing control<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0requires a different mindset<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, which also<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0helps in sustainability and ownership of t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he innovation by the end-users.<\/span><span t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">he IDRC experience of scaling different innovations\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">since 2016<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span scaling process in place, targeting specific knowledge in one context, and had to involve a range of actors that could enable the impact of the innovations.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWhat we learned is that there is no blueprint for scaling in research for development<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0innovations<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">she noted<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span
