He has since served in the Yam Breeding Unit of IITA, contributing groundbreaking results in breeding, data analysis, and optimized root tuber solutions to farmers. He currently focuses on applying biological information and molecular tools to support yam breeding. His hard work and immense contribution gained international acclaim during the just-concluded Advances in Genome Biology and Technology (AGBT) conference on 7 February in Orlando, Florida, USA. AGBT hosts networking events and conferences for change-makers in life sciences and the global biotech community.

Dr. Agre Paterne with other AGBT award recipients.

AGBT provides the platform for the world’s top genome science and technology researchers, leaders, and innovators to share the latest advances, discoveries, and breakthroughs with influential peers and key decision-makers. A smiling Agre received the Next Gen Leadership Award for his achievement in yam genomic discovery and breeding optimization. The award is exceedingly deserved as Agre is an expert in plant breeding, next-generation data analysis, genomic prediction and selection, database management, QTL linkage and traits association mapping, and marker-assisted selection.

Dr. Agre Paterne with the AGBT award.

This recognition gives further credence to the invaluable research solutions IITA researchers and scientists contribute to food solutions and food security in Africa.

Agre enjoys writing manuscripts and has co-authored over eighty articles, including book chapters.
