The launch took place as part of the IITA Communication Open House, an event to highlight the capacities and activities of the communication function in the Institute.\n\nDeputy Director General, Research for Development\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/saethre-may-guri\/\">May-Guri Saethre<\/a>, in her opening remarks, said, \u201cCommunication is our most important tool for indirect resource mobilization.\u201d\n\nIn her presentation, Head of Communication\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/lopez-katherine\/\">Katherine Lopez<\/a>\u00a0shared the big dream of the Communication team, which is to \u201cmake IITA the center of excellence for science communication.\u201d She described Radio IITA as a collaborative effort between different directorates and units of IITA.\n\nIITA Director General\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/sanginga-nteranya\/\">Nteranya Sanginga<\/a>\u00a0officially launched the radio station when he switched the \u201cOn Air\u201d sign at the Conference Center. The first scheduled program was a live studio interview featuring Sanginga and Director of the Development and Delivery Office,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/dixon-alfred\/\">Alfred Dixon<\/a>\u00a0in a show called \u201cGood morning, IITA!\u201d\n<div id=\"attachment_5115\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 864px\">\n\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28470\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/RadioIITA-p02-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"864\" height=\"575\" \/>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5115\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IITA Director General Nteranya Sanginga\nspeaking in his first live Radio IITA interview.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nThe DG described the celebration as \u201chistoric\u201d and gave kudos to the project implementation and Communication teams, and everyone who was involved in facilitating the foundation of Radio IITA. He said, \u201cAs we are scaling up IITA\u2019s initiatives and innovations, Radio IITA is going to be an opportunity to reach a larger number of people.\u201d\n\nWhile speaking on the current phase of implementation of Radio IITA, Dixon said, \u201cWe have the expertise that can make Radio IITA the CNN of Africa, which is the DG\u2019s vision.\u201d He also spoke about the broadcast license approval of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and noted opportunities for collaboration with other organizations interested in agricultural broadcasting.\n\nDeputy Director General, Corporate Services\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/koper-hilde\/\">Hilde Koper<\/a>\u00a0and others attending the event provided feedback and reiterated the significance of radio to smallholder farmers. They noted that with radio transmission, agricultural information is more likely to reach the target audience.\n\nRadio IITA broadcasts test transmissions twice weekly, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
