Vanlauwe also used the opportunity to present IITA\u2019s activities in DRC, and in the wider African context.\n<div id=\"attachment_4545\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 803px\">\n\n<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4545\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/DRC-Chief-of-Staff-p02.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"803\" height=\"602\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4545\" \/>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-4545\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>IITA delegation and the Chief of Staff, Mr Vital Kamereh (Third from left).<\/em><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nVanlauwe spoke briefly about IITA\u2019s ongoing interventions in DRC, including research on crop varieties tolerant and resistant to cassava brown streak disease and the maize legionnaire larva. He also outlined innovative approaches including national capacity building through diploma training in different value chains, the integration of youth in agribusiness, and the expertise of other CGIAR centers in the framework of joint projects for more impact in the beneficiary communities.\n\nVanlauwe presented Kamerhe with a document summarizing the activities of IITA in the DRC, the results obtained, the gaps and challenges identified as well as the new perspectives.\n\nKamerhe appreciated IITA for the visit, welcoming the Institute\u2019s activities in the DRC and pledged the country\u2019s support for IITA\u2019s activities for the Congolese community.\n\nThe members of the IITA delegation included\u00a0<a
