WFD was inaugurated in November 1979 in honor of the date of the establishment of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fao.org\/home\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Food and Agriculture Organization<\/a>\u00a0(FAO) and has been observed globally every year since then. The theme for this year\u2019s celebration was\u00a0<em>\u201cOur actions are our future\u201d<\/em>.\n<div class=\"articleimg\">\n<div id=\"attachment_4043\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 265px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IITA-staff-members-celebrating-2018-World-Food-Day-with-a-walk-for-Zero-Hunger.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4043\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IITA-staff-members-celebrating-2018-World-Food-Day-with-a-walk-for-Zero-Hunger.jpg\" alt=\"Picture of IITA staff members celebrating 2018 World Food Day with a walk for Zero Hunger\" width=\"265\" height=\"122\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4043\" \/><\/a>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-4043\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IITA staff members celebrating 2018 World Food Day with a walk for Zero Hunger.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iita.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IITA<\/a>\u00a0joined the World Food Day celebrations in a novel way with staff embarking on a 2-km Walk for Zero Hunger to commemorate the day. This was the WFD edition of the IITA wellness initiative called Walk for a Purpose, which is organized to mark international celebrations that are relevant to the Institute\u2019s vision.\n\nThe event began with an exhibition showcasing IITA\u2019s work on mandate crops at the Institute\u2019s conference center in Ibadan, Nigeria, before the participants set out on the walk around the campus.\n\nSpeaking at the end of the walk, IITA Deputy Director General, Partnerships for Delivery,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iita.org\/iita-staff\/dashiell-kenton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kenton Dashiell<\/a>\u00a0appreciated everybody who took time to be there and lauded them as ambassadors of IITA and of the upcoming P4D Week.
