{"id":16331,"date":"2026-06-20T12:50:25","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T12:50:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.iita.org\/news-item\/iita-participates-in-2018-technology-and-innovation-expo\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T19:36:54","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T19:36:54","slug":"iita-participates-in-2018-technology-and-innovation-expo","status":"publish","type":"news-item","link":"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/news-item\/iita-participates-in-2018-technology-and-innovation-expo\/","title":{"rendered":"IITA participates in 2018 \u201cTechnology and Innovation Expo\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"IITA made a strong appearance at the week-long \u201cTechnology and Innovation Expo 2018\u201d that took place in Abuja, 5-9 March.\n<div>\n<div id=\"attachment_3441\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 266px\">\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/bulletin.iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/IITA-staff-showcasing-value-added-products-from-cassava-and-yam.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3441\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IITA-staff-showcasing-value-added-products-from-cassava-and-yam-742x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Picture of IITA staff showcasing value-added products from cassava and yam\" width=\"266\" height=\"367\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3441\" \/><\/a>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-3441\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IITA staff showcasing value-added products from cassava and yam<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\nThe IITA stand featured publications, vine cutting technology, and several cassava and yam-based confectionery including the landmark \u201cTidbits.\u201d From the first to the last day of the event, visitors thronged to see IITA\u2019s featured technologies and innovations, which some described as \u201cunique.\u201d Several high-profile visitors toured IITA\u2019s exhibition stand, including directors, scientists, diplomats, and a high-powered delegation from the Nigerian Army.\n\nThe annual expo is organized by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology and the theme of this year\u2019s expo was \u201c<em>Fast-tracking sustainable development of Nigeria through science and technology<\/em>.\u201d It was held at Eagles Square, Abuja, with IITA attending for the second consecutive year.\n\nAt the closing ceremony on 9 March, IITA was given a certificate of participation, which was received by Terngu Abur, Communication and Marketing Assistant based in Abuja, on behalf of IITA.\n\nOutstanding innovation was rewarded as the Federal Government pledged to sponsor the best three candidates that sat for the 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award scholarships up to doctorate degree in any Nigerian university. President Buhari, who was represented by Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, said that the move aims to encourage more young students to study science.\n\n\u201cI am confident that this expo will build on the achievements of others before it,\u201d the host, the Honorable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu said. The dignitaries at the event included top government functionaries, diplomats, and private sector captains.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IITA made a strong appearance at the week-long
