It is on this premise that the representative of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Purdue University<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.purdue.edu\/purdue\/search.html?q=steve%20yaninek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Professor Steve Yaninek<\/a>, visited IITA on 26-28 February to explore possible areas of collaboration with IITA on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.afdb.org\/en\/projects-and-operations\/project-portfolio\/p-z1-a00-016\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation<\/a>\u00a0(TAAT) program.\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iita.org\/iita-staff\/dashiell-kenton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kenton Dashiell<\/a>, Deputy Director General, Partnerships for Delivery, with other members of the management team, welcomed Prof Yaninek and gave an introduction to IITA\u2019s activities and programs.\n<div id=\"attachment_3393\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 773px\">\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Dashiell-Dixon-May-Guri-and-Akem-discussing-with-Steve.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3393\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Dashiell-Dixon-May-Guri-and-Akem-discussing-with-Steve.jpg\" alt=\"Picture of Dashiell, Dixon, May-Guri, and Akem discussing with Steve\" width=\"773\" height=\"449\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3393\" \/><\/a>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-3393\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dashiell, Dixon, May-Guri, and Akem discussing with Steve<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nPurdue University, with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.afdb.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">African Development Bank<\/a>\u00a0(AfDB)\u2019s intervention in the agricultural sector, is saddled with the responsibility of addressing postharvest loss reduction in Africa to improve livelihoods for both small- and large-scale farmers. In his presentation, Yaninek said, \u201cThe purpose of the Postharvest Losses Reduction and Agro-Processing (PHAP) program, an initiative of AfDB, is to enable countries to achieve supply-chain efficiencies through targeted investments in rural infrastructure, logistical support, postharvest, and agroprocessing technologies leading to reduced physical losses, improved food availability, and enhanced product quality.\u201d\n\n[su_quote]Yaninek explained the need to partner with IITA: \u201cWe are leading and collaborating in efforts to reduce postharvest losses, enhance agricultural value chains, and improve nutrition. To achieve this mandate, there is the need to leverage on IITA\u2019s developed technologies and to see areas in which the two parties can develop innovations to reduce food loss and promote industrialization along the agriculture value chain.\u201d[\/su_quote]\n\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iita.org\/iita-staff\/dixon-alfred\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfred Dixon<\/a>, Director of Development and Delivery, and Project Leader,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cassavaweed.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cassava Weed Management Project<\/a>, said the collaboration will focus on the postharvest aspect of the TAAT program, extrusion technology, using appropriate scale-type machinery for farming, participating in scaling up of innovations in agricultural conferences, manufacturing of a moisture meter to determine moisture level of grains, and probably, a testing kit for aflatoxin, and possible ways of controlling mealybug in yam.\n\nA tour of the facility was
