Le projet, qui en est actuellement \u00e0 la moiti\u00e9 de sa deuxi\u00e8me phase, intervient en R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo, en \u00c9thiopie, au Ghana, au Kenya, au Malawi, au Mozambique, au Nigeria, au Rwanda, en Tanzanie, en Ouganda et au Zimbabwe. Notre article (et les photos) a \u00e9t\u00e9 fourni par Emmanuel Mwale de l'IITA Malawi.\n<h2>Un partenariat r\u00e9ussi avec le secteur priv\u00e9 facilite la fourniture d'inoculant pour soja au Malawi : L'histoire d'AISL<\/h2>\nApr\u00e8s avoir mis au point et d\u00e9montr\u00e9 les avantages des inoculants \u00e0 base de soja pour am\u00e9liorer la productivit\u00e9 de cette culture au Malawi, le d\u00e9fi du projet N2Africa consistait \u00e0 garantir que cette technologie soit \u00e0 la fois accessible et abordable pour les agriculteurs.\n\nIl a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9montr\u00e9 que cet inoculant, qui ajoute au sol des bact\u00e9ries fixatrices d\u2019azote afin d\u2019en am\u00e9liorer la fertilit\u00e9, permet d\u2019augmenter le rendement du soja d\u2019au moins 40 \u00e0 50%. Parmi les autres avantages, on peut citer l\u2019augmentation de la teneur en prot\u00e9ines des graines \u2014 une hausse pouvant atteindre 40,6% si l\u2019inoculation est bien r\u00e9alis\u00e9e.\n\nLe projet importait jusqu\u2019alors l\u2019inoculant Biofix de MEA, au Kenya, \u00e0 des fins de recherche et de d\u00e9monstration.\n\nAuparavant, le gouvernement du Malawi, par l\u2019interm\u00e9diaire du D\u00e9partement des services de recherche agricole (DARS), produisait et fournissait environ 2 000 sachets d\u2019un inoculant appel\u00e9 \u201c Soy \u201d, accessible \u00e0 un nombre limit\u00e9 d\u2019agriculteurs qui se rendaient \u00e0 la station de recherche pour acheter le produit et \u00e0 des fins de recherche.\n<h3>Le secteur priv\u00e9 \u00e0 la rescousse<\/h3>\nLe projet a donc recherch\u00e9 des acteurs du secteur priv\u00e9 pour s'associer \u00e0 la production d'inoculant abordable au Malawi. Fredrick Kawalewale, comptable qualifi\u00e9, a rapidement saisi l'opportunit\u00e9 commerciale par le biais de son entreprise Agro-Input Suppliers Limited (AISL). Il a investi dans du mat\u00e9riel de laboratoire et, en 2014, AISL a produit 20 000 sachets d'inoculant Nitrofix \u00e0 titre de projet pilote.\n<div id=\"attachment_2744\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 877px\">\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/624_Malawi.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2744\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/624_Malawi.jpg\" alt=\"Picture of Mr Kawalewale in his inoculant production lab.\" width=\"877\" height=\"538\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2744\" \/><\/a>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2744\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">M. Kawalewale dans son laboratoire de production d'inoculants.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<em>\u201cLorsque nous avons commenc\u00e9, nous avons am\u00e9lior\u00e9 l'emballage et la manutention de Nitrofix. Nous avons investi dans des chambres froides solaires pour un stockage ad\u00e9quat. Des 20 000 premiers sachet de 50 g, nous sommes pass\u00e9s \u00e0 280 000 sachets, r\u00e9ussissant \u00e0 atteindre plus de 95 000 agriculteurs. Tout cela s'est produit en l'espace de trois ans. Nous pr\u00e9voyons d'atteindre 1 million de sachets, ce qui se traduira par environ 350 000 agriculteurs ayant acc\u00e8s au produit au cours des cinq prochaines ann\u00e9es.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Il a d\u00e9clar\u00e9 :\n\nKawalewale, qui est titulaire d'un MBA, affirme que son parcours lui a donn\u00e9 l'occasion de trouver des solutions pratiques pour les agriculteurs.\n\n<em>\u201cJe n'avais pas besoin d'\u00eatre agronome pour comprendre que les agriculteurs font face \u00e0 des probl\u00e8mes dans la cha\u00eene de valeur. Nous devions faire des choses qui r\u00e9pondent aux besoins des agriculteurs,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Il a dit.\n<h3>Assurance qualit\u00e9<\/h3>\nPour garantir que l'inoculant r\u00e9pond aux normes requises, Kawalewale a mis en place un laboratoire bien \u00e9quip\u00e9 et de haut niveau pour la production et les tests, ainsi qu'un excellent emballage pour la livraison aux agriculteurs. Il construit \u00e9galement actuellement des installations plus grandes dot\u00e9es d'\u00e9quipements de laboratoire robustes afin d'augmenter la production de l'inoculant pour r\u00e9pondre aux besoins de l'ensemble de l'Afrique australe, puis du monde entier. L'AISL d\u00e9veloppe \u00e9galement des inoculants pour les haricots et les arachides.\n\nLes agriculteurs du Malawi r\u00e9coltent d'immenses avantages de l'utilisation de l'inoculant et d'autres bonnes pratiques agronomiques introduites par N2Africa et ont constat\u00e9 une plus grande accessibilit\u00e9 de l'inoculum gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'implication d'AISL.\n<h3>Les agriculteurs ont d\u00e9sormais un acc\u00e8s plus facile \u00e0 l'inoculant pour soja<\/h3>\nNatalia Matiasi, agricultrice de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence dans la culture du soja au sein de la zone de planification et de vulgarisation (EPA) de Mpingu, \u00e0 Lilongwe, aide ses coll\u00e8gues agriculteurs \u00e0 adopter les meilleures pratiques et les nouvelles technologies en mati\u00e8re de culture des l\u00e9gumineuses. Dans son champ, elle met en \u0153uvre toutes les pratiques agronomiques qu\u2019elle a apprises gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 N2Africa pour augmenter sa production de l\u00e9gumineuses : elle traite ses semences avec un inoculant avant de les planter, et les s\u00e8me en doubles rangs pour augmenter les rendements. Elle illustre parfaitement comment les nouvelles technologies peuvent am\u00e9liorer les moyens de subsistance des agriculteurs.\n\nNatalia explique qu\u2019il existe des diff\u00e9rences nettes dans la culture lorsque l\u2019inoculant est appliqu\u00e9. Les plantes ont des feuilles plus vertes, des tiges plus longues et davantage de gousses que lorsque l\u2019inoculant n\u2019est pas appliqu\u00e9. M\u00eame les racines pr\u00e9sentaient de nombreux nodules et \u00e9taient donc capables d\u2019introduire davantage d\u2019azote dans le sol. Elle a \u00e9galement compar\u00e9 sa r\u00e9colte de ma\u00efs de l\u2019ann\u00e9e suivante sur la m\u00eame parcelle et a constat\u00e9 que les rendements avaient augment\u00e9, malgr\u00e9 une utilisation r\u00e9duite d\u2019engrais inorganiques.\n\nGr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l\u2019AISL, l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019inoculant est d\u00e9sormais plus facile. \u2019 Cette ann\u00e9e, il nous a \u00e9t\u00e9 plus facile de nous procurer l\u2019inoculant que les autres ann\u00e9es. Nous l\u2019avons achet\u00e9 chez notre distributeur agricole local au prix de 1 000,00 MK ($1,4 US) par sachet et avons appliqu\u00e9 12 sachets sur au moins deux hectares de terre (ce qui correspond \u00e0 $8,4 d\u2019inoculant par hectare), ce qui prouve \u00e0 quel point la culture du soja est \u00e9conomique par rapport \u00e0 celle du tabac, que je pratiquais auparavant et qui n\u00e9cessitait environ $220 d\u2019engrais pour \u00e9tablir la culture. Je suis d\u00e9sormais en mesure d\u2019envoyer mes enfants \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9cole gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 mes revenus issus de la culture du soja. \u201c\n\nEt comme toute m\u00e8re, Natalia esp\u00e8re que la culture du soja contribuera \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer sa vie et celle de ses enfants. Elle esp\u00e8re pouvoir envoyer ses enfants au lyc\u00e9e et \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 gr\u00e2ce aux \u00e9conomies r\u00e9alis\u00e9es gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la culture du soja. Elle pr\u00e9voit de r\u00e9nover sa maison et d\u2019acheter davantage de terres.\n\nEn tant qu\u2019agricultrice de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence, elle explique que plus de 400 agriculteurs ont visit\u00e9 son champ au cours de la derni\u00e8re saison de plantation pour s\u2019informer sur ses pratiques agricoles. Certains d\u2019entre eux ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 cultiver du soja inocul\u00e9 sous sa supervision. N2Africa la soutient en lui proposant des formations, en mettant en place des parcelles de d\u00e9monstration et en organisant des journ\u00e9es de terrain consacr\u00e9es \u00e0 la culture du soja et des l\u00e9gumineuses ainsi qu\u2019aux strat\u00e9gies de commercialisation.\n\nPhiphira est fi\u00e8re de voir que la vision de N2Africa se concr\u00e9tise et consid\u00e8re que le Malawi est un exemple de r\u00e9ussite obtenue gr\u00e2ce au partenariat entre le secteur priv\u00e9 et le gouvernement.\n\n<em>\u201cN2Africa est fier de ce qu'AISL a accompli. Nombre de nos objectifs ont \u00e9t\u00e9 atteints principalement gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des partenariats. Nous avons vu la vie des agriculteurs s'am\u00e9liorer et c'\u00e9tait notre objectif.
