In attendance were Kabongo Kazadi, the Minister of Agriculture and other representatives from partner and donor organizations including INERA, and the United States Agency for International Development (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaid.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USAID<\/a>).\n<div id=\"attachment_2640\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 847px\">\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_DSC_05213787.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2640\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1024_DSC_05213787.jpg\" alt=\"Picture of IITA50 cake sharing moment.\" width=\"847\" height=\"555\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2640\" \/><\/a>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-2640\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">IITA50 cake sharing moment.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\u201cAlthough IITA began operations in DR Congo about 47 years ago, the Institute has been working to advance African agriculture for 50 years now\u201d noted\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/mahungu-nzola-meso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nzola Mahungu<\/a>, IITA Country Representative. He also applauded the DR Congo Government for its unflinching support since 1974 and for funding IITA\u2019s initial research to combat\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bacterial_blight_of_cassava\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cassava bacterial blight<\/a>\u00a0(CBB) in the region.\n\nOn behalf of the IITA Director General,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/sanginga-nteranya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nteranya Sanginga<\/a>, the Central Africa Hub Director,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/vanlauwe-bernard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bernard Vanlauwe<\/a>, thanked the Honorable Minister for his presence at the celebration.
