Cela a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9alis\u00e9 en introduisant deux para\u1e63ito\u00efdes d'Inde, le pays d'origine du manguier et de la cochenille du manguier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-30163\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Successful-p1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"508\" height=\"414\" \/>En 2019, ce m\u00eame ravageur a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9tect\u00e9 pour la premi\u00e8re fois en Afrique de l&#x27;Est, plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment au Rwanda. Cette infestation a entra\u00een\u00e9 une baisse vertigineuse de 92% de la production de mangues en 2022, comme l&#x27;a rapport\u00e9 le <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/home\/en\">Organisation des Nations unies pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture<\/a> (FAO). Les pertes cumul\u00e9es de production de mangues pour le seul Rwanda entre 2019 et 2023 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 estim\u00e9es \u00e0 23,6 millions de dollars am\u00e9ricains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-30164\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Successful-p2-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"488\" height=\"387\" \/>Pour y rem\u00e9dier, l'Organisation pour l'alimentation et l'agriculture a financ\u00e9 un programme de lutte biologique classique g\u00e9r\u00e9 par le Bureau sous-r\u00e9gional pour l'Afrique de l'Est (SFE) et ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 par <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/\">IITA<\/a>\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/\">CGIAR<\/a>. Les deux agents de lutte biologique ont \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9s dans les insectariums d'IITA-B\u00e9nin, o\u00f9 des agents de vulgarisation du Burundi, du Rwanda et de l'Ouganda ont re\u00e7u une formation aux techniques de production de masse et de suivi. Les l\u00e2chers initiaux sur le terrain, r\u00e9alis\u00e9s avec des parasitoides fournis par IITA-B\u00e9nin, ont eu lieu au Burundi en mai 2022 et en Ouganda en octobre 2022. Les deux l\u00e2chers ont \u00e9t\u00e9 effectu\u00e9s pr\u00e8s de la fronti\u00e8re rwandaise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-30165\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Successful-p3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"557\" height=\"452\" \/>Deux ans plus tard, des enqu\u00eates conjointes men\u00e9es dans les trois pays par Georg Goergen, responsable du centre de biodiversit\u00e9 de l'IITA, en collaboration avec la FAO, le personnel de la SFE et des scientifiques nationaux, ont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 un effondrement complet de la population de ravageurs. On estime qu'environ 250 000 arbres dans ces pays ont \u00e9t\u00e9 lib\u00e9r\u00e9s de ce ravageur sans aucun co\u00fbt pour les producteurs. Dans l'ensemble, les co\u00fbts ont \u00e9t\u00e9 minimes car l'IITA et ses collaborateurs en Afrique de l'Ouest avaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 effectu\u00e9 tout le travail pr\u00e9paratoire. Ce succ\u00e8s, \u00e0 l'instar de la lutte men\u00e9e pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment contre la cochenille du manioc en Asie \u00e0 partir des laboratoires de l'IITA au B\u00e9nin, souligne l'importance de maintenir la capacit\u00e9 de diagnostic rapide et pr\u00e9cis et d'intervention d'urgence \u00e0 l'IITA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-30166\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Successful-p4-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"581\" height=\"480\" \/>Cependant, quelques cochenilles farineuses du manguier ont encore \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9es dans trois situations sp\u00e9cifiques : dans les centres urbains, en particulier aux arr\u00eats de bus situ\u00e9s dans des zones o\u00f9 la qualit\u00e9 de l'air est mauvaise en raison de la pollution due au trafic, ce qui a eu un impact n\u00e9gatif sur les para-sito\u00efdes ; dans les plantations trait\u00e9es avec des insecticides contre d'autres ravageurs, ce qui a \u00e9galement tu\u00e9 les para-sito\u00efdes introduits ; et sur les arbres dont les racines sont recouvertes d'asphalte ou de b\u00e9ton. Ces interactions entre les plantes, les insectes ravageurs et leurs ennemis naturels soulignent la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 de mesures de lutte int\u00e9gr\u00e9e contre les ravageurs (LIR) minutieuses pour maintenir l'impact des ennemis naturels, qu'ils soient introduits ou indig\u00e8nes. Orlando Sosa, agent de la production v\u00e9g\u00e9tale \u00e0 la FAO-SFE, a soulign\u00e9 l'impact durable du projet : \u201c Bien que nous ne puissions pas \u00e9radiquer la cochenille farineuse du manguier, les para-sito\u00efdes offrent une solution permanente et \u00e0 faible co\u00fbt, garantissant un contr\u00f4le et une durabilit\u00e9 \u00e0 long terme. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Comme en Afrique de l'Ouest, ce r\u00e9cent succ\u00e8s dans la lutte biologique contre la cochenille farineuse de la mangeue s'ajoute \u00e0 l'impact document\u00e9 des m\u00eames parasitoids en Afrique de l'Est. Georg Goergen d\u00e9clare : \u201c Dans le cadre de nos efforts conjoints avec la FAO pour lutter contre l'infestation de la cochenille farineuse de la mangue en Afrique de l'Est, l'introduction de parasito\u00efdes fournis par l'IITA a \u00e9t\u00e9 un succ\u00e8s retentissant et un facteur d\u00e9terminant.
