{"id":17253,"date":"2026-06-20T12:56:00","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T12:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.iita.org\/news-item\/new-initiative-on-nutrition-ifna-launched\/"},"modified":"2026-06-20T12:56:00","modified_gmt":"2026-06-20T12:56:00","slug":"new-initiative-on-nutrition-ifna-launched","status":"publish","type":"news-item","link":"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/news-item\/new-initiative-on-nutrition-ifna-launched\/","title":{"rendered":"New initiative on nutrition, IFNA, launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At a side event co-hosted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (<a title=\"Visit the Japan International Cooperation Agency website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jica.go.jp\/english\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JICA<\/a>) and the New Partnership for Africa\u2019s Development (<a title=\"Visit the New Partnership for Africa\u2019s Development (NEPAD) website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nepad.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NEPAD<\/a>), a new framework tagged \u201cInitiative for Food and Nutrition Security in Africa (IFNA)\u201d was launched. This is expected to accelerate international efforts to alleviate hunger and malnutrition in the African continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So far, 12 African countries\u2014Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Sudan, South Sudan, and Zimbabwe; organizations such as African Development Bank, Bill &amp; Melinda Gates Foundation, Food and Agriculture Organization, Helen Keller International, International Fund for Agricultural Development, International Food Policy Research Institute, IITA, NEPAD, UNDP, United Nations International Children\u2019s Emergency Fund, World Bank, World Food Programme, and World Health Organization as well as private companies, have all expressed their commitment to partner in the IFNA project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Masahito Enomoto, IFNA manager, IFNA will facilitate people-centered and practical activities through empowerment of women, as well as action-oriented policy enhancement, to achieve inclusive nutritional improvement with an impact. The interests of IITA as a key partner in this project was presented by\u00a0<a title=\"Visit Dr. Busie Maziya-Dixon profile page on the IITA website\" href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/maziya-dixon-busie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Busie Maziya-Dixon<\/a>, IITA nutritional specialist, and\u00a0<a title=\"Visit Haruki Ishikawa profile page on the IITA website\" href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/ishikawa-haruki\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Haruki Ishikawa<\/a>, IITA plant physiologist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe (IITA) are ready to collaborate with IFNA and all projects, initiatives, and organizations, so long as they are contributing to Africa\u2019s food security and
