L-R: IITA DDG Partnership for Delivery Kenton Dashiell (left) and Lehmann listen attentively as Ylva\nHillbur, IITA DDG Research (right), highlights major agricultural research activities at IITA.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\nThe visitors were received by\u00a0Kenton Dashiell<\/a>, DDG Partnerships for Delivery on 23 August.\n\nLehmann said the mission to IITA aimed to strengthen the relationship between IITA and Australia and to explore how best the two parties can work together to enhance agricultural productivity in Africa.\n\n\u201cAgricultural productivity is one of the key areas in which Australian Government takes as priority and IITA\u2019s work in Agriculture has much potential to benefit not only Africa but other parts of the world as the effects of climate change and the demand for sustainable production are increasing everywhere,\u201d he said.\n\nDashiell through his opening remarks emphasized the need for proper government policies towards agricultural research. \u201cWhen policies are great new technologies can get to the farmers. Howerver, if the countries do not care about agriculture and import all their food, there will be no hope for helping farmers,\u201d said Dashiell.\n\nLehmann also commended the technologies developed by IITA such as\u00a0AflasafeTM<\/sup><\/a>, a biocontrol product, which protects crops from aflatoxin contamination and NoduMax\u2015an inoculant for legumes that enhances yield of legumes. He also applauded the success of the\u00a0SARD-SC<\/a>\u00a0project.\n\nThe activities of the\u00a0IITA Youth Agripreneurs<\/a>\u00a0(IYA) fascinated Lehmann. He congratulated them on their effort, and said the Agripreneurs are the future of Nigeria\u2019s agriculture.\n\n\u201cWhat you (IYA) are doing is inspiring and worthy of more recognition around the world. The Australian government is looking forward to learn from your experience and hopefully the rest of the Pacific and Asia will also gather new ideas from you.
