Dans les \u00c9tats de Benue, Cross River, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Niger et Oyo, ainsi que dans le Territoire de la capitale f\u00e9d\u00e9rale (FCT) d'Abuja, les producteurs d'igname adoptent les nouvelles vari\u00e9t\u00e9s commercialis\u00e9es par <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/\">IITA<\/a>\u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/\">CGIAR<\/a> car ces vari\u00e9t\u00e9s promettent des rendements plus \u00e9lev\u00e9s et une meilleure r\u00e9silience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au cours des deux derni\u00e8res d\u00e9cennies, la culture de l'igname a diminu\u00e9 en raison de l'indisponibilit\u00e9 des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9es et de tubercules de semence de qualit\u00e9. Cependant, le programme d'am\u00e9lioration de l'igname de l'IITA revitalise cette culture essentielle en fournissant aux agriculteurs les outils dont ils ont besoin pour accro\u00eetre leur productivit\u00e9. La r\u00e9colte a d\u00e9but\u00e9 sur le champ d'essai situ\u00e9 au si\u00e8ge de l'IITA \u00e0 Ibadan, suivie par d'autres r\u00e9gions du pays \u2013 le FCT Abuja, l'\u00c9tat d'Oyo (Alagbede, Igboho) ; l'\u00c9tat de Kaduna (Kachia et Zango Kataf) ; Cross River (Nyanya et Bekwara) ; l'\u00c9tat du Niger (Bosso, Kafin Koro, Lapai) ; Nasarawa (Obi, Deddere, Keana) ; et Benue (Tarka, Guma et Konshisha). Le Programme a maintenu une recherche collaborative avec les agriculteurs, am\u00e9liorant leurs pratiques agronomiques li\u00e9es \u00e0 la multiplication de l'igname.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La vulgarisation des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s d'ignames d'\u00e9lite, Favorite, Super, <em>Va yam<\/em>, <em>Akuabata<\/em>, et Asiedu, d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 \u00e0 l'IITA, parmi les agriculteurs de ces \u00c9tats, est toujours en cours. Les programmes de formation et les ateliers se sont concentr\u00e9s sur les technologies de production de semences, les pratiques agricoles durables ainsi que la gestion des ravageurs et des maladies. Le Programme d'am\u00e9lioration de l'igname de l'IITA (IITA-YIP) continuera d'orienter les agriculteurs sur les avantages de devenir des producteurs de semences communautaires et des entrepreneurs semenciers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Se concentrer sur la production de semences soutient les pratiques agricoles durables et am\u00e9liore les moyens de subsistance des agriculteurs.
