Leading this charge, IITA Director General and CGIAR Regional Director for Continental Africa, <a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/simeon-ehui\/\">Dr Sim\u00e9on Ehui<\/a>, engaged with Mohamed Malick Fall, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/\">United Nations<\/a> Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, to chart strategies for advancing food security and agricultural innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his recent mission to Abuja, Dr Ehui met with Fall for a high-level strategic dialogue focused on advancing science-driven agricultural solutions, youth agripreneurship, and financing for sustainable food systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr Ehui provided an overview of IITA-CGIAR\u2019s research impact and major milestones achieved in recent years, emphasizing the Institute\u2019s contributions to addressing critical challenges in Africa\u2019s agrifood systems\u2014particularly in soil health, seed systems, and plant health. He highlighted innovations such as the Semi-Autotrophic Hydroponics (SAH) technology, which recently won an international award for its contribution to improving crop propagation and productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_33533\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33533\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-33533 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/IITA-and-World-Bank-team.png\" alt=\"Dr Simeon Ehui with Mohamed Malick Fall,and the IITA and World Bank team\" width=\"820\" height=\"411\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-33533\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Simeon Ehui with Mohamed Malick Fall,and the IITA and World Bank team<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor IITA, with all of these technologies, the biggest challenge remains scaling \u2014taking proven solutions to farmers at large scale for greater impact,\u201d said Dr Ehui. \u201cThis is why strategic partnerships are critical. We are committed to working with development partners like the United Nations to ensure that Africa becomes food sufficient.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fall commended IITA\u2019s contributions to agricultural research and innovation, describing the engagement as a crucial step in bridging partnerships between the UN and IITA. \u201cThis visit has been high on my list\u2014to not only connect with IITA but to create a bridge between us,\u201d he said. \u201cFor the UN, Nigeria is very important in terms of size and demographics, and this is critical to bringing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on track.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further noted that the UN is implementing six transition pathways to accelerate SDG delivery, emphasizing that for a country like Nigeria, agriculture remains the biggest channel for economic transformation. \u201cIf the right investments are channeled, agriculture can power growth and resilience,\u201d he added. \u201cWe must also explore how to mitigate climate change and adopt systems that make agriculture more adaptive and sustainable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure id=\"attachment_33534\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33534\" style=\"width: 820px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" CGIAR, we remain dedicated to forging strong, transformative partnerships that advance agricultural innovation, improve livelihoods, and build sustainable food systems for Africa\u2019s future,\u201d
