Alors que les pays font face \u00e0 l'\u00e9volution des conditions climatiques, aux dynamiques changeantes des march\u00e9s et \u00e0 la pression croissante pour cr\u00e9er des emplois et renforcer les \u00e9conomies rurales, le d\u00e9bat va de plus en plus au-del\u00e0 de la seule production pour s'int\u00e9resser \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re dont les syst\u00e8mes agricoles cr\u00e9ent de la valeur \u00e0 long terme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De plus en plus, l'attention se tourne vers les syst\u00e8mes qui soutiennent la croissance agricole, notamment la recherche, l'innovation, les syst\u00e8mes semenciers, la commercialisation et la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 traduire la science en solutions pratiques qui profitent aux agriculteurs et aux href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/\"><u>IITA<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;La membre du Conseil d'administration, le Dr Victoria Kwakwa, a soulign\u00e9 le r\u00f4le central de la recherche dans la construction de syst\u00e8mes alimentaires r\u00e9silients, la r\u00e9duction de la d\u00e9pendance aux march\u00e9s ext\u00e9rieurs et l'acc\u00e9l\u00e9ration de la transformation \u00e9conomique en Afrique lors d'une r\u00e9cente visite au p\u00f4le de l'IITA pour l'Afrique australe (SAH) \u00e0 Lusaka, en Zambie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Dr Kwakwa a visit\u00e9 le Hub pour \u00e9changer avec le personnel et les chercheurs et acqu\u00e9rir une vision plus approfondie du travail du Hub et de sa contribution \u00e0 l'avancement de la transformation agricole en Afrique pour l'Afrique de renforcer ses syst\u00e8mes agricoles et de b\u00e2tir une plus grande r\u00e9silience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tirant les enseignements des \u00e9v\u00e9nements r\u00e9cents, notamment les perturbations des cha\u00eenes d'approvisionnement li\u00e9es au conflit russo-ukrainien, les pressions sur le march\u00e9 des engrais et la variabilit\u00e9 climatique \u00e0 travers le continent, elle a fait observer que la d\u00e9pendance continue de l'Afrique \u00e0 l'\u00e9gard de syst\u00e8mes ext\u00e9rieurs pour son alimentation et ses intrants agricoles constitue un d\u00e9fi croissant pour le d\u00e9veloppement \u00e0 long terme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c Nous devons vraiment nous ressaisir dans le secteur agricole \u201d, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9. \u201c L'Afrique ne peut pas y arriver sans l'Afrique. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le Dr Kwakwa a soulign\u00e9 que la transformation agricole doit aller au-del\u00e0 de l'augmentation de la production et se concentrer plut\u00f4t sur la construction de syst\u00e8mes plus solides et plus int\u00e9gr\u00e9s qui relient la recherche, les de d\u00e9velopper le secteur agricole. Nous ne pouvons pas d\u00e9velopper l'agriculture en nous basant sur ce que nos p\u00e8res et grands-p\u00e8res ont fait il y a des d\u00e9cennies. Nous devons rechercher de nouvelles solutions, r\u00e9pondre aux d\u00e9fis \u00e9mergents, d\u00e9velopper des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de cultures am\u00e9lior\u00e9es, les commercialiser et les apporter aux agriculteurs de mani\u00e8re significative et durable \u201d, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elle a soulign\u00e9 que le renforcement des syst\u00e8mes agricoles offre une opportunit\u00e9 non seulement d'am\u00e9liorer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 alimentaire, mais aussi de stimuler le d\u00e9veloppement industriel, de cr\u00e9er des emplois, de dynamiser les \u00e9conomies rurales et de positionner les pays africains comme des acteurs comp\u00e9titifs sur les march\u00e9s agricoles r\u00e9gionaux et mondiaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saluant le travail men\u00e9 par l'IITA, le Dr Kwakwa a d\u00e9crit l'institut comme occupant une position importante pour contribuer \u00e0 fa\u00e7onner l'avenir agricole du continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c \u00c0 mon avis, vous \u00eates des chefs de file en agriculture, a-t-elle d\u00e9clar\u00e9. Vos recherches et vos efforts pour veiller \u00e0 ce que les solutions soient appliqu\u00e9es de mani\u00e8re judicieuse et durable sont d'une importance capitale. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Elle a en outre salu\u00e9 l'excellence scientifique et la capacit\u00e9 technique de l'ensemble de l'institut et a encourag\u00e9 le personnel \u00e0 continuer de repousser les fronti\u00e8res de l'innovation agricole malgr\u00e9 un contexte budg\u00e9taire de plus en plus contraint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCe que vous faites ici a un impact sur tellement de gens. Vous avez d\u00e9j\u00e0 du succ\u00e8s, mais les d\u00e9fis \u00e0 venir exigent d'aller encore plus loin.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La visite s'est conclue par une pr\u00e9sentation institutionnelle et une vitrine du portefeuille de travaux du Hub d'Afrique australe en mati\u00e8re d'am\u00e9lioration des cultures, d'am\u00e9lioration g\u00e9n\u00e9tique, de syst\u00e8mes semenciers, de r\u00e9silience climatique, de m\u00e9canisation et d'initiatives de recherche-d\u00e9veloppement mises en \u0153uvre dans toute la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S'exprimant \u00e0 la cl\u00f4ture de l'engagement,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/parkes-elizabeth\/\"><u>Dr Elizabeth Parkes<\/u><\/a>, obt\u00e9tricien de l'IITA, qui a accueilli le Dr Kwakwa, l'a remerci\u00e9e pour sa visite et a r\u00e9affirm\u00e9 l'engagement de l'IITA \u00e0 g\u00e9n\u00e9rer des solutions fond\u00e9es sur la science qui renforcent les syst\u00e8mes alimentaires, am\u00e9liorent les moyens de subsistance et contribuent \u00e0 la transformation agricole \u00e0 travers l'Afrique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les priorit\u00e9s mises en avant lors de la visite s'alignent \u00e9troitement sur les efforts continus du p\u00f4le IITA pour l'Afrique australe visant \u00e0 renforcer la r\u00e9silience agricole, \u00e0 acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la commercialisation et \u00e0 am\u00e9liorer les moyens de subsistance dans toute la r\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des investissements dans la recherche et des plates-formes d'innovation telles que l'Installation de s\u00e9lection rapide du soja, une premi\u00e8re du genre en Afrique subsaharienne, le P\u00f4le acc\u00e9l\u00e8re les cycles d'am\u00e9lioration des cultures et soutient le d\u00e9veloppement de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s am\u00e9lior\u00e9es capables de r\u00e9pondre aux d\u00e9fis agricoles \u00e9mergents et aux conditions climatiques changeantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le P\u00f4le fait \u00e9galement progresser la transformation agricole men\u00e9e par les jeunes gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l'initiative Young Agripreneurs, qui continue de doter les jeunes de comp\u00e9tences pratiques, de technologies et d'opportunit\u00e9s d'agro-industrie tout en cr\u00e9ant des voies d'acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l'emploi et \u00e0 la participation dans toutes les cha\u00eenes de valeur agricoles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En parall\u00e8le, les interventions de l'IITA sur le manioc continuent de soutenir la productivit\u00e9 et la commercialisation en d\u00e9veloppant et en promouvant des vari\u00e9t\u00e9s et des technologies am\u00e9lior\u00e9es de manioc qui renforcent les syst\u00e8mes semenciers, am\u00e9liorent l'acc\u00e8s des agriculteurs \u00e0 du mat\u00e9riel deplanting de qualit\u00e9 et ouvrent des opportunit\u00e9s pour la valorisation et le d\u00e9veloppement des march\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Propos\u00e9 par Rachel Namukolo-Nali<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Agriculture remains one of Africa\u2019s greatest opportunities for economic transformation.
