La session, anim\u00e9e par le responsable de la culture banani\u00e8re de l'IITA,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/iita.org\/fr\/iita-staff\/swennen-rony\/\">Rony Swennen<\/a>, rassembl\u00e9 des chercheurs et des acteurs engag\u00e9s dans l'am\u00e9lioration des cultures en Afrique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nyine dirige les efforts visant \u00e0 int\u00e9grer la s\u00e9lection conventionnelle avec les outils de g\u00e9nomique et de g\u00e9n\u00e9tique quantitative modernes afin d'acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer le d\u00e9veloppement de vari\u00e9t\u00e9s de plantain am\u00e9lior\u00e9es qui r\u00e9pondent aux besoins des agriculteurs et des consommateurs. Ses recherches font \u00e9galement progresser la compr\u00e9hension de la biologie florale du bananier pour am\u00e9liorer la production de semences et la r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration des hybrides, qui constituent des contraintes de longue date dans l'am\u00e9lioration du plantain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant \u00e0 sa trajectoire professionnelle, Nyine a soulign\u00e9 comment sa transition de la recherche sur la banane \u00e0 la s\u00e9lection du bl\u00e9 aux \u00c9tats-Unis a \u00e9largi sa perspective scientifique. Au Wheat Genetic Resource Center, Kansas State University, il a mis en place des pipelines de s\u00e9lection innovants int\u00e9grant le g\u00e9notypage et le ph\u00e9notypage pour suivre les traits b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques des parents sauvages vers des cultivars de bl\u00e9 d'\u00e9lite, en particulier ceux associ\u00e9s \u00e0 la r\u00e9silience climatique et \u00e0 la qualit\u00e9 du grain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLes populations d\u2019introgression sont comme une bo\u00eete noire ; il faut les ouvrir par g\u00e9notypage et ph\u00e9notypage pour comprendre o\u00f9 se situent les traits b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques et comment ils se comportent\u201d, a-t-il not\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette exp\u00e9rience, a-t-il expliqu\u00e9, a renforc\u00e9 son engagement \u00e0 d\u00e9ployer des technologies d'am\u00e9lioration g\u00e9n\u00e9tique avanc\u00e9es au sein des syst\u00e8mes d'am\u00e9lioration des cultures africaines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De retour en Afrique, Nyine a donn\u00e9 la priorit\u00e9 \u00e0 la construction d'un programme de s\u00e9lection de bananiers ax\u00e9 sur l'avenir, qui combine des m\u00e9thodes conventionnelles robustes avec des innovations de pointe. Ses recherches portent sur la biologie de la reproduction, l'introgression et le cartographie des g\u00e8nes de domestication, ainsi que sur une analyse approfondie du g\u00e9nome du bananier, garantissant la pr\u00e9servation des traits de qualit\u00e9 essentiels tout en am\u00e9liorant la productivit\u00e9. Il a en outre contextualis\u00e9 les progr\u00e8s actuels dans les tendances historiques de s\u00e9lection, faisant r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la \u201c bulle de s\u00e9lection \u201d qui a influenc\u00e9 l'am\u00e9lioration des bananiers depuis la fin des ann\u00e9es 1980 et notant le besoin d'un \u00e9lan scientifique renouvel\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En soulignant les r\u00e9alisations cl\u00e9s, Nyine a fait \u00e9tat de l'introduction d'une diversit\u00e9 g\u00e9n\u00e9tique am\u00e9lior\u00e9e dans les programmes de s\u00e9lection de bananes plantains, du d\u00e9veloppement de proc\u00e9dures op\u00e9rationnelles normalis\u00e9es pour le suivi de la croissance des tubes polliniques, de la cr\u00e9ation de nouveaux blocs de pollinisation et du perfectionnement des sch\u00e9mas de croisement. Son \u00e9quipe a \u00e9galement renforc\u00e9 les pratiques agronomiques, notamment l'irrigation, le paillage, la gestion des engrais et l'application de milieux de germination du pollen, parall\u00e8lement \u00e0 la num\u00e9risation compl\u00e8te du flux de travail de s\u00e9lection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dans le d\u00e9veloppement des capacit\u00e9s, Nyine a activement impliqu\u00e9 le personnel de l'IITA, des chercheurs de&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/nihort.gov.ng\/\">l'Institut National de Recherche Horticole (NIHORT), Nig\u00e9ria&nbsp;<\/a>et l'Institut de recherche sur les cultures (CRI), Ghana,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/radio.iita.org\/\">RadioIITA<\/a>&nbsp;sensibilisation des producteurs de plantain, et supervision des \u00e9tudiants de troisi\u00e8me cycle entre 2024 et 2025. Ces efforts ont favoris\u00e9 la collaboration interdisciplinaire, l'apprentissage pratique et l'\u00e9change de connaissances durable au sein de l'\u00e9cosyst\u00e8me de s\u00e9lection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il a \u00e9galement soulign\u00e9 les investissements strat\u00e9giques dans les infrastructures, notamment une serre de pathologie avec une installation d\u00e9di\u00e9e au traitement des \u00e9chantillons, des syst\u00e8mes d'irrigation modernis\u00e9s et des r\u00e9seaux d'irrigation au goutte-\u00e0-goutte \u00e9largis. En mati\u00e8re de mobilisation de ressources, Nyine a contribu\u00e9 \u00e0 plusieurs propositions de subventions qui ont permis de s\u00e9curiser environ 11 millions de dollars am\u00e9ricains entre 2024 et 2025, dont environ 6 millions de dollars am\u00e9ricains \u00e9taient destin\u00e9s \u00e0 des projets ax\u00e9s sur la banane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En perspective, Nyine a soulign\u00e9 des priorit\u00e9s strat\u00e9giques ax\u00e9es sur le renforcement de l'am\u00e9lioration des programmes de pr\u00e9-s\u00e9lection et des pools parentaux, l'avancement de la recherche en biologie de la reproduction pour am\u00e9liorer la r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration des hybrides, et l'exploitation d'outils modernes tels que la s\u00e9lection g\u00e9nomique et le g\u00e9nie g\u00e9n\u00e9tique pour acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer davantage les gains g\u00e9n\u00e9tiques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Il a conclu en exprimant sa gratitude \u00e0 la direction de l'IITA pour son soutien continu en mati\u00e8re de leadership et \u00e0 l'\u00e9quipe de s\u00e9lection du plantain pour son d\u00e9vouement et sa collaboration.
