Working with Africa\u2019s primary staple crops \u2013 banana and plantain, cassava, cowpea, maize, soybean, and yam \u2013 IITA is tasked with the following:<\/p><ul class=\"listmar\"><li>Increasing food crop yields by 60%, which will increase farmers\u2019 incomes by 50%.<\/li><li>Extracting more value from the agricultural sector in this way reduces rural poverty and will lift 15% of poor households, over 11 million Africans, above the poverty line.<\/li><li>Combating poor nutrition, with the aim of reducing the number of malnourished children by 30%.<\/li><li>Restoring fragile, arable lands through more sustainable management of natural resources, aiming to recover and revitalize almost eight million hectares of badly degraded farmlands.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-30a3ce5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"30a3ce5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">OUR RESEARCH<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-07cdb43 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"07cdb43\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>IITA\u2019s core business, in line with\u00a0<a title=\"Visit the CGIAR website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cgiar.org\/\">CGIAR<\/a>, is research for development.
