The many visitors, who come to enjoy this \u2018Sanctuaire des singes\u2019, come mainly because of the wild-living, but easily observable red-bellied monkeys, a critically endangered species. Born in 1943, I studied in Bern, Switzerland, and Berkeley, California, before working for FAO in Greece and Senegal. Since 1983, I am with IITA as a biocontrol specialist and, later, for ten years as director of the Plant Health Management Division. Together with my colleagues, we had numerous successes in biological control, bringing introduced pests like mealybugs, floating water weeds, etc., to low levels, thereby relying on our outstanding insect collection and its curator \u2013 in short, we solved problems for good for the benefit of African farmers. Now, the same farmers, need sustainable solutions on a landscape level. This asks for a better protection of biodiversity.
