Olaniyi Oyatomi<\/span><b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">,\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span lang=\"EN-GB\">a Nigerian,<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">\u00a0is a Post-doctoral Fellow\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">in\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">Genetic Resources at the Genetic Resources Center\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">(GRC)\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">, Nigeria<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">. He joined IITA in 2001 as a research supervisor. He later became the\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">S<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">eed\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">B<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">ank\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">M<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">anager at the Genetic Resources Center in 2010, a position he held until 2022, when he became a Post-doctoral Fellow\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"EN-GB\">in\u00a0<\/span><span lang=\"en-NG\">Genetic Resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"en-NG\">He obtained his B.Sc. in Plant Science in 1998 from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, Nigeria, and his MSc. and Ph.D. in Plant Genetics in 2005 and 2018, respectively, from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.<\/span><\/p>\nHis work has focused on the core elements of Seed Quality Management, germplasm conservation, and pre-breeding of legumes, including cowpea, soybean, Bambara groundnut, African yam bean, and other underutilized legumes. Also, his<span data-ogsc=\"black\">\u00a0research activities include screening wild\u00a0<i>Vigna\u00a0<\/i>species and cowpea (<i>Vigna unguiculata\u00a0<\/i>[L.]\u00a0Walpers)\u00a0landraces\u00a0for\u00a0sources\u00a0of\u00a0resistance\u00a0to\u00a0<i>Striga gesnerioides.\u00a0<\/i>(Wild.)\u00a0Vatke. His current research focuses on the discovery and deployment of climate-adaptive alleles from the world\u2019s cowpea germplasm collection under the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation-funded project on allele mining in cowpea.<\/span><span data-ogsc=\"rgb(49, 49, 49)\" data-ogsb=\"white\">\u00a0He has collaborated severally with local and international partners on seed quality management and conservation research projects.<\/span>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>r.
