A delegation from Aletheia University, Ago Iwoye in Ogun state paid an exploratory visit to IITA–CGIAR headquarters in Ibadan on 31 July. The visit aimed to gain insights into the Institute’s research innovations, discuss strategic areas for collaboration, and formalize a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IITA and Aletheia University.
In his welcome address, the IITA Deputy Director General, Partnerships for Delivery (DDG-P4D), Kenton Dashiell, expatiated on the Institute’s extensive involvement in diverse thematic areas of capacity building in collaboration with various organizations. He highlighted how these initiatives have been instrumental in guiding the younger generation toward their career paths, emphasizing IITA’s commitment to fostering talent and developing future leaders in agricultural research and related fields. Following Dashiell’s speech, the Aletheia University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amos Onasanya, enthusiastically highlighted the potential impact of the forthcoming collaboration. He noted that this partnership would significantly broaden the educational horizons of Aletheia University’s students, including crucial thematic areas—agricultural research and development, science, engineering, agribusiness, and international projects.
Onasanya added, “This collaboration would not only enhance the academic curriculum but also provide students with invaluable opportunities to engage in cutting-edge research and practical applications, thereby preparing them for successful careers in these vital sectors.”
In a wrap-up session with the delegates, Onasanya expressed his anticipation for a fruitful collaboration, emphasizing its positive impact on Aletheia University’s students. Dashiell proposed that Aletheia University consider adopting some of IITA’s research methodologies and best practices.
“This adoption would pave the way for a long-term and successful collaboration between both organizations, fostering academic excellence and advancing agricultural research and development,” Dashiell suggested.
Both organizations signed an MoU to formalize the agreement and kick-start a series of engagements to foster academic excellence.
