Enhancing Sustainable Land Management and Climate-Resilient Agri-food Systems in Cote d’Ivoire (LARACI)
Project Goals
LARACI is a five-year Green Climate Fund (GCF) project that strengthens climate resilience and reduces greenhouse gas emissions in Cote d’Ivoire’s agri-food sector. Delivered by CGIAR as the GCF Accredited Entity, with Africa Rice Center (AfricaRice) and the Fonds Interprofessionnel pour la Recherche et le Conseil Agricoles (FIRCA) as Executing Entities, and IITA and the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT as research partners, the project enables farmers, agribusinesses and national institutions to manage climate risks across the rice, cassava and yam value chains in the central regions of N’Zi, Iffou, Moronou, La Me and Gbeke.
Expected results
• 147,000 direct and 441,000 indirect beneficiaries reached in the five target regions (at least 40 percent women), with measurable gains in food and nutrition security, productivity and household income.
• 606,212 tCO2eq mitigated by the end of the project and an estimated 3,808,776 tCO2eq over its 20-year lifespan, through climate-smart agriculture (CSA), sustainable land management and agroforestry on around 110,600 hectares.
• A functional national agrometeorological network and climate information services, with strengthened agro-advisories, dissemination channels (radio, SMS, GIS portal) and trained extension agents, MINETE officers and farmers.
• An effective national CSA extension service, including upgraded ANADER and ADERIZ training curricula, certified extension agents and regulatory officers (target: at least 1,000 trained, minimum 40 percent women), and stronger research to extension linkages.
• Improved access to climate-smart finance, with at least 20,000 farmers and agribusinesses (minimum 40 percent women) accessing CSA financial products and services, supported by gender-sensitive policy instruments and capacity building for microfinance institutions.
• Integrated sustainable land management and agroforestry deployed across the central regions, with at least 100,000 producers and extension agents using location-specific recommendations.
• Climate-smart cassava, yam and rice value chains, with promotion of high-quality inputs and planting material, strengthened producer and commercialisation organisations, and streamlined infrastructure.
• Stronger national knowledge systems and inclusive market linkages between farmers, financial institutions, agribusinesses, research and extension, anchored in FIRCA’s national coordination role.
