IITA–CGIAR, one of Africa’s largest cutting-edge research institutes, recently signed a collaborative partnership agreement with Universite Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P). This is due to the common interest in promoting cooperation and exchange shared between organizations in education, research, and innovation.

The partnership focuses on establishing a strategic relationship to foster the development of cooperation in collaborative areas. These include research projects, agriculture, capacity building program implementation, and organization of specific events.
According to the report, the collaboration would be accomplished by exchanging professors and research scholars, graduate students, scientific materials, publications, and other information of mutual interests, as well as collaborative activities such as lectures, symposia, and joint research.
Following the aforementioned collaborative areas, they would be implemented in two initiatives—the African Fellowship Program and CGIAR-UM6P Capacity Development Hub, which was unveiled at the meeting. The initiatives would influence how Africa’s agricultural and environmental sciences would be developed in the future.
The MoU was signed to clarify IITA’s and UM6P’s motives and willingness for the initiatives. The MoU would commit and facilitate any joint preliminary study and due diligence related to the initiative and provide a framework for the organizations’ general intentions regarding the initiatives.
As part of IITA’s mission of ensuring sustainable agriculture, building youths’ capacity is an essential component in achieving this mission. With expertise from both organizations, this partnership would unleash the youth’s agricultural potential and promote sustainable farming practices and a safe environment.
